How to improve the next MK game?!?

posted03/06/2006 06:30 PM (UTC)by$UB-Z?R0Yeah I admit that Deception was the most horrible fighting game ever, but I also am sure that Midway is aware of that. Now they have to prove themselves with the forthcoming game Mortal Kombat: Amargeddon.
They'll have to change the whole thing if you know what I mean.
So with along the engine they should change the difficult combo moves, greater and not confusing storyline and they should learn from their previous MK projects. There should be a Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance konquest mode, great mini games, more realistic looks of the characters, many type of backgrounds from Mortal Kombat 3 should be used again, The Krypte mode with only Mortal Kombat related things.
These things are right now in my mind to improve the the next MK game.
I would be glad if you share your ideas to improve the game in this thread......

Game play wise, It was the worst.
Almost everything was done badly.
I'm mainly a game play fan, so I'd like for the MK team to focus a LOT on the fighting in MK.
Use purpose, style, logic and balance when designing everything.
Try to get away from the video game look of combat.
An idea for testing the games at home that would equal the arcade is to have Demo discs be playable online.
Like test versions at the arcade, but have it be a demo CD you can buy for like $10.00.
The Demo would have...
* 4 characters playable
(There could be different sets of Demo discs, with different characters to choose from.)
* VS mode = VS comp or VS human player
* A good practice mode with a recording function
* Have at least 2 stages
One would be normal with walls and ring outs / death traps or whatever.
The other would be an infinite stage, like the ones in Tekken Tag and Tekken 5. With this, you can practice long juggles without walls getting in the way.
* Playable online
They could have a feed back section for the game's web site, they could browse through sites like MKO and get instant feed back via head sets and video footage.
This way, they can test the game with tons of people and make money off it.

All they really need is to stop focusing so much on multiple fighting skills for each character, a more fluid combat system so combos are easier to pull off, either make the transite combos easier to pull off or remove them all together, oh and maybe GOOD graphics. The graphics in Deception was lacking even for the PS2. They don't have to make it great graphics but they should make it atleast more visually stunning then Soul Calibur 2.
Oh, and the feature I really really want to see... Kreate-a-Kombatant!!

For me the priority would have to be FMV endings, and Zebron.

My hopes aren't very high for MK:A... I mean all the MK Team is doing is making the largest roster over and TWEAKING the horrible gameplay... so this isn't too good.

Since they haven't made any announcements about the game except the name, I don't know how you know this with such clarity already. I'd prefer to wait until we know more before everyone starts jumping to conclusions about this being a new MKTrilogy. The only thing that really bothers me about MK5 and 6 is the story, and I think Vogel really needs to get his act together and start putting things in continuity.
MK:D didnt suck at all. I thought it was a great game. the fighting was a little bit slow but i still think its a really good game.
Somethings they should keep:
1. Being able to switch your fighting style/pulling out your weapon
2. Being able to link your fighting styles
3. Being able to side step ( 3-D fighting)
4. Breaker
5. The krypt
6. Special kontent
7. KONQUEST!!!
Some new things:
1. You should be able to link your special moves
2. Introduce some new characters
3.You should be able to play with older characters like Sektor, Cyrax or reptile.
4. Environment Fatalities- Instead of each character having their own fatalites, the character can use the environment. Ex.: Deadpool- character A puts character B in the acid and then take throws his skeleton at the wall and then it shatters or something.
5. New costumes

MKD was one of the best games I've ever played.
okay, ways to improve the game. They just need to make Konquest a lot better, and it's good. Have a better fighting system and it's better. Throw that in with about 33 characters and voila, perfection

I'd like the option to change the life bar style.
1 = normal
2 = tug of war
3 = regenerating
4 = tug of war + regenerating
5 = 1 long life bar, or divided in to rounds.
6 = handicap = 50 % life = It'll make you fight better.
7 = automatic depleating
etc.
You can choose which ever you want to play the game with.
You could set it so they change at random automatically when you play the different game modes.

Agree on the Zebron
Deception wasn't bad... War Gods was bad... I think 3fighting styles hybrid was kind of a mess... either keep the intricate DA system or use the good ol' MK High Punch, High Kick and so forth....
I've never been a weapons fan.... I think there should be weapon characters like Mileena and Kitana... but that every character has a weapon is kind of boring for me... especially when they are not defined by their weapons...
Lots and lots of 1-game generic characters dont help either.... Characters like Kira with tons of potential completely wasted...
Respecting FMV endings... I think game-model endings likei in SC3 or some sequences of RE4 are fine... I just don't want those damn slide show things they had in the last 2 games... BLah..
Going back to characters... I'd like to kill FEW characters... after all.. it is mortal kombat... and NOT having them back... and FEW new characters every game... not like 10 new shitty characters like in Deception...
Finally... some interesting secrets like in MK2 rather than crappy unlockeables and tons of red herrings would be nice...

Reveal Sonya Blade used to be a man.
To improve the next MK game, I think we have to go way back to it's roots. I think the reason MK fails on the current-gen consoles is because it tries too hard to be a competition for other fighting games.
2 stances + 1 weapons style was a neat idea, but let's face it the execution was poorly done. I'll won't start pointing out flaws in gameplay mechanics that allow you to perform infinintes with almost every character. To be honest, I never bothered to play the games long enough to look for them. And I'm also not the type of guy who studies gameplay mechanics thoroughly.
My main gripe is the slow and clunky gameplay, limited combos and being restricted by a dial-a-combo system. If it weren't for Fatalities or gallons of blood I wouldn't even call it MK anymore.
What happened to the times where I could sit in front of the TV only train for a minute or two and deliver a 7 hit with Sub-Zero into my opponents face? Now when I try the same with MK:DA or MK:D I suddenly stop at the 2nd punch because the 3rd button wasn't part of a pre-set combo.
Midway has to stop trying to excel other fighting games, they'll fail anyway. Miserably. Return back to one stance per character ( a additional weapon stance is acceptable ), give us back the run function and get rid off the dial-a-combo system. MK games need to be more action oriented, don't try to make it too complex like VF or Tekken.
And that's why I think that the next MK should be roughly based on MK:SM's gameply mechanics. MK:SM's vs mode, IMO, was phenomenal and I prefer it without a 2nd thought over MK:DA and MK:D. Fluid movements, lighting fast combat, that's how I remembered MK.
The only things that are missing to make it a good fighter are throw/combo cancels and reversals.

How to improve the game is make it online like deception was, Make all the old bosses playable...
I'm all up for Zebron but if there is ONE thing I want it is for Boon and co. to take their time on their future projects.I want no more of this 'We ran out of time so we had to remove it.' I want none of this BS when they talk about new features!!Oh yeah and I also want FatSatans characters in the game as well.(You might know about him if you go on the Kombat Kourier.)

Oh yeah I forgot about the run function, that was awesome in MK 3/4
But hey I think you made it clear.
This is what I expect now: Better and returning backgrounds from MK 3 with better background music, FMV Ending, easy combo control, better storyline, konquest mode storyline for each character like they did in MK DA
hopefully they will change the whole engine....
