Some can say that all we want is quality not quantity. I agree, but everyone also agree that a good game with a good cast of your favorite characters is excelent. They just need to work them, balance, give their moves, good fatals, those things.

Until now MK has more than 60 characters, so it is really impossible to do a game with them all (maybe not).

For me, the perfect number would be 28, 30. MK Deception had 27 (counting Kahn, Goro and Onaga for GC version).

14 already unlocked to play and the other 14 (or 15) need to be unlocked. Plus, some secret character would be a cool idea. New characters are welcome, of course. Every new version has new faces.

I think it would be realistic to have a roster of 40 characters. With some characters to be hidden of course. Anything above that number would taint the game's quality. The production team are always complaining about the deadlines, so they would never have enough time to make a game of more than 40 characters unless they were alotted time extensions.

the best recipe is having around 40 now. 42 would be enough. At least 1/3 of the characters would be newbies if Midway thinks logically, since the game stalestagnates if no adwancement is given. Thats why the MK story is constantly seeming to be slightly better than other fighter games.

Games that have the same characters over and over DO have a staler plot-line in the majority. I hope they donát fuck it up with the nonsense charac-ters from MK3-4, MKDA and MKD topped everz newbie since MK2 IMO.

Wow, I can't imagine a MK Game with more than 40 characters. Would be great. I will play this for months if this come true, until I am mastered with every character.

Maybe in the new generations consoles they have conditions to do a thing like that.

And really hope that Midway stop to use this "no time" excuse anymore.

Personally, I think next game they should try for about 30 characters, plus a boss or two. I am a firm beleiver that the next MK game needs quality over quantity, in many areas, not just the character selection.

MK's gameplay mechanics need a lot of work, and I beleive that more work has to be done to improve this, rather than simply try and cram in as many characters as humanly possible. What is the point of a 40-50 character game, when the game sucks to play? If they can make MK7 a great game to play, then maybe next game they can look at increasing the playable cast, as they will already have the improved fighting engine to work with, but for now, fixing the gameplay must come first. This also applies to extra features like side games and Krapquest mode.

Plus, I think that having a huge cast of characters means you end up with a whole bunch of fighters that end up as virtual clones. Like the multiple pallete swaps of MKT, the overload of Shotoclone fighters in SNK VS Capcom. I'd rather have a smaller cast of characters, but each one well developed, different enough from the rest, and a worthwhile addition to the game, rather than say "Let's bring back Mokap to fill another fighter slot".

Bah, I never saw a need for overly huge rosters. Anywhere from the mid 10's range to the mid 20's would be fine by me.

Bah?

I say 30 i perfect
15 to 20 is enough for me. With little to no copy and paste of moves.

I also would rather have better game play than a bunch of characters with bad game play.

Sareena isn't either. She was in the GBA version of MK:DA I think. She should be doing something around this time.

Sareena is now added to the list... however, I do not know much about her . I don't think many do, except that she showed up in Deception and was shown as some drawings and sketches throughout the Krypt. Hopefully she plays a bigger role in the next Mortal Kombat! Thanks!

I perfer a roster between 26 and 40 characters. I find that fightning games with "small" rosters get boring very quickly due to the lack of varitey no matter how much "quality" is put into the individual character. Somehow I just can't get into playing the same tiny handful of characters over, and over, and over, and over.................

I never was really bothered by characters who "share moves". In fightning games even the slightest of variations can make a world in difference in a character's strategy and play style. For example in SC I'm quite good with Rock and Hwang, yet suck with Astraroth and Yun Sung. On paper Rock and Astraroth look like twins yet Rock(Beserker) can be played much more aggressively where Astraroth is more of a defensive punisher type.

But that's just my take on the subject.

K... who is Chameleon and Khameleon! I have heard of these two around this and other Mortal Kombat sites but can't find any info on them or where they showed up! Can you fill me in a little and tell me where I could find these two at. Possibly what their history is too! Also... if these two characters are somewhat involved in Mortal Kombat... why aren't they on this website somewhere so people can maybe get familiar with them. Just a suggestion though... also Sareena! As far as the list goes... I will put them down! Thanks

The new DBZ Budokai tried to add all the characters from the DBZ-DBGT universe into the game..........which they nearly succeeded, but the gameplay is rather shitty compared to previous titles.

Same with MK. 20-30's good.

And let's keep Tsung, Lao, and Ermac.

I think around 30 - 35, because it gets boring to play the same characters over and over after a while.

Hmmmm i am all for a large roster of characters, if they fit into the story and are all pretty individual in terms of moves/fatalities/look.

Also, I think they should focus on making the game solid. Id rather have 20 characters with a good fighting engine who are all involved in the main story, rather than a roster of 35+ with lots of fillers and people with copied moves.

Chameleon and Khameleon were the secret characters in MK:Trilogy.

-Chameleon was on the PS version of MK:T and had no story. All we know is that he was supposedly a general of Shao Kahn's. He was a ninja who could use the moves of all the male ninjas. He changed colour, when he was yellow, he used Scorpions move, when orange he used Ermac's, when blue he used SUb Zero's etc etc.

-Khameleon was the N64's hidden characters. She was just like Chameleon, in that she used other Nija's moves, this time, Kitana/Jade/Mileena. She was a grey pallette swap of them.
Unlike Chameleon, she had a story. Khameleon is a Raptor, one of Reptile's people. She knew the truth that Shao Kahn wiped out most of her race, and knew she and Reptile were the only two left. She set out to try and find him and tell him the truth about the man he was serving. We havent heard of her since, except that She is listed as an ally of Reptile in hi MK:D trading Card, and was beifly commented on in MK:DA's Konquest.

Sareena's story is a bit more involved. For a 'non-mainstream' game character, she is remarkably developed in the story-line department.

-She first appeared in MK: Mytholigies: Sub Zero. She is a demon of the Netherrealm, given human form by Quan Chi and therefore bound to serve him as a personal assassin (probably bitch/whore too lol). She worked with Kia and Jataaka, two other demons. They were sent to stop The Original Sub Zero (who was searching for an medallion) during MKM:SZ before he reached Quan Chi. Sub Zero killed Jataaka and then Kia, but spared Sareena's life. There was a hint of some possible love connection between them. Anyway, Sareena then helped Sub Zero defeat Quan Chi, by delivering the final blow. Sub then agreed to take her out of the Netherrealm, but it was short lived plan, as Shinnok appeared and killed her from behind.
After that, the only info on Sareena was in Reiko's bio for MK4, saying he was connected to Sareena/Kia/jataaka, but didnt say how.
-Sareena was then presumed dead, but infact, she had only lost the human form Quan Chi granted her. She descended into the Netherrealm plains, where she managed to follow Quan Chi to the Portal where her escaped the Netherrealm in the Intro of MK:DA (Although Sareena obviosuly isnt seen here or anything). She then crosses into Outword, and learns to feed off of the Human Aura to maintain her Human form, and has no use for Quan Chi anymore. Once in Outworld, she stumbles across Sub-Zero (the younger one) and he explains who he is etc. He then grants her sanctuary with the Lin Kuei. Her ending for MK:TE hints that she may betray Sub Zero, but I personally think its just to add mystery to her and show its a tricky business trusting a demon. Sareena was originally said to be in MK:D, along with Sektor who was also added to MKLTE, but they was dropped for some reason.
If you want to know more about her and her potenital, then please follow the link in my sig to a thread I made about her a while back. It covers her story (which I wrote from Sareena's persepective) as well as future ideas.

As long as i am able to play with Kabal and Shao Kahn im fine

I would say a good roster would at least have to be 30 charactersgrin
Well knowing how they've been doing things, like Bleed said, we don't want a shitty move list.

On one hand, the more characters the better.

On the other hand, if you told me the next mk game had 8 characters, i'd expect they'd completely reworked the game engine, and expected to sell it on the quality of the gameplay. If you told me the next MK game had every MK character ever, i'd expect that the gameplay was much the same as before. (although it could also mean that they'd got rid of the 3-style shit)

I'd like it to have EVERY single character, with EVERY single ending move... BUT I'd want it on 2-d!!!
I'd like it to be like an MKT2... only w/ improved graphics, new stages, some new sprites (not characters, but like the inflate sprite and split down the middle sprites in MK2)
And have all new characters 2-d'd... but not likee saying "tanya and li mei aer a yellow and purple pallete swap of the female ninjas".. but like actually designing a 2d version of them...
