there is no real answer other than that is what the MK team is calling it. even though MKvsDC was not canon it was still considered by them, so therefore in lays your answer. many fans see the next game as MK8 regardless...i do myself. i like MKvsDC somewhat but i dislike calling it MK8.
and welcome to MKO

Well thank you... But I can't take MK vs DC as MK8 as well... It has nothing to do with the canon story-line or the happenings in Armageddon

Neither can majority of the users here. But, there are other users on this site that has been calling the game in the workings as MK8.

It's not about canon/non-canon. That isnt how Ed Boon sees it. MK vs DC was codenamed MK8 because it was the eighth game in the fighting series. The next game is called mk9 because it's the 9th game in the series...

That's not really a fair analogy. MK5 was not the the title of Deadly Alliance, but that's what the game was in essence.
MKvsDC was not in essence MK8, but even if it was, it wouldn't be because the the developers said so, because these things are restricted by logical definitions. The definition of MK1 is "the 1st game in the canonical story of the MK saga." If you relax that definition, you start to get absurdities, like Mortal Kombat Mythologies being MK4, or Shaolin Monks being MK7. If it turns out to be the continuation of the MKA storyline, then I'll continue to call it MK8.
Edit: Unless it's a reboot. Then I'll call it rotting ball sacks.
