No matter how much I thought of Shao Kahn as a ruthless and merciless tyrant, I still believe that the only reason he didn't kill Sindel along with king Jerrod when he conquered Edenia was that he loved her. He didn't kill Kitana because he needed an heir and a loyal servant, I suppose.... But, he certainly must have had some gentle feelings towards Sindel. I mean, if he needed just any wife, couldn't he choose among countless beautiful Outworld women? Please, redirect the post to the Overall Mortal Kombat Discussion, I posted into the wrong forum...!

This should've been in the Overall MK Discussion section. Regarding your question, according to the MK3 book thing, Shao Kahn did indeed love Sindel.

I also think he loved her. I even imagine Sindel being a weakness of him for liking her so much even though she's on the good side. I don't think he would ever try to hurt her physically or take her life away.

Sindel was driven to suicide by Shao Kahn, but technically that isn't Shao Kahn's fault as Sindel caused her own harm and fate. Shao Kahn was just acting the only way he knows how.
Personally I think the death/suicude of his love probably drove him more towards being the corrupt tyrant he is today, just my intake.

I don't think he loved her at first, i think he didn't kill her because marrying her after he killed jerrod would be like a big "fuck you" to jarrod and the edinean nation. But i think over time he did learn to love her, after all, he brought her back in MK3.

I agree with that. Shao Kahn most likely would have married Sindel as an insult to the former ruler and maybe this is why he also adopted Kitana and turned her into his own bodygaurd. A tyranical emperor like Shao Kahn relies on fear, but maybe he also thought it would add legitamacy to his rule to take the Queen of Edenia as his bride hoping it would make the transition easier for the Edenians to submit to their new ruler.

It's Sindel's fault that Shao Kahn invaded her realm, killed her husband, massacred her people, and stole her daughter? How the fuck did she cause that to happen.

I do think deep down Shao Kahn has...or used to anyway...some feeling for Sindel and Kitana. In his own twisted way, I do think he cared about them, on some level. They did say when MK3 was released Kahn was genuinely upset by Sindel's death and why else would he keep Kitana around for so long and try to keep her on his side?
As for why...that's a question I've always been interested in.

How did she cause her death? That was her doing, did Shao Kahn kill her? no, she commited suicide, thus killing herself, therefore Shao Kahn is not to blame for her murder... maybe the invasion, death of her people and abduction of her daughter but the one to kill Sindel was Sindel.
