It may just very well be the Shaolin Monks sequal takes place between MK2-MK3. Earthrealm was in shambles and was being destroyed hence the name Armageddon. It could show Cage getting killed and Sub-Zero escaping from Ketchup,Mustard and Smokey.It makes perfect sense.

Yes, people have already thought about this and it’s a good idea except for a few things:

1- This game MUST NOT be a sequel to Shaolin Monks.

2- The main story characters should NOT be: Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Scorpion or Sub-Zero this time.

3- The game should NOT be a beat-them-up button smash. A new technique must be used (Tomb Raider adventure style for example)

Oh! And BTW, Johnny Cage officialy never died during the Mk3 events. That has already been confirmed.
