Nothing really new but at least they did not butcher anything and actually knew what they were talking about. I saw another another preview at IGN and one of the presenters was worried about the violence is the game. I think he even wrote an artcile about it. I still can not believe people take the vioelnce so seriously even if they know what Mortal Kombat is about.

Watched the ign video, it was amusing watching the guy try to preface his opinion by basically stating "yeah, so I'm totally not squeemish and I'm totally brave and stuff, but....".

Overall, I like the optimism of the people that actually know what the hell they're talking about.

In all fairness this seems to be the most gruesome and gory MK to date. Sometimes you can go too far.

Just watching the way they were talking about the game and seeing how excited they are has got me even more hyped! This game will be legendary, can't wait!

And, the part where one of the guys mention Cassie Cages "Hollywood" variation where she can do her father's nut punch and shoot her guns in what sounds like the Matrix/Max Payne kind of fashion is new to me.

I think Jose Otero from IGN is a bit sensitive. He cites Kotal Kahn's fatality as one that really affected him but its clearly the tamest fatality in the bunch. (Well besides Cassie's) I mean, if you're going to be queezy at least say it was Scorpion's fatality that made your stomach turn.

Its true that the fatalities are gorier than ever. But that always happens with every MK game. As graphical advances are made, more realistic looking fatalities are expected.

MK fatalities in general have always been gruesome. Think Sub-Zeros head/spine rip from the very 1st game, Sektor's compactor from MK3, that prison stage fatality from MK4, Kano's heart rip, Sheeva's skin rip, Kung Lao's vertical slice.. You get the idea.

I think it is indeed the fact that with each game the graphics get better. I'm not gonna lie. When I first saw Scorpion's fatality at E3 (and mind you it wasn't even the whole thing) that heart falling in the center of that gaping hole created by Scorpion's hell fire was DISTURBINGLY realistic. I couldn't stop thinking about it for a day lol. I'm over now, the realism in this game regarding the fatalities is at an all time high. And you know what? It's a good thing, because it's basically what we've been asking for. How many of those "dark MK threads" do we have around here.

This should not be a surprise to anyone that has basic knowledge of MK. Like people here have said they usually get worse and worse (Or better and better for me) as technology progresses.

I for one love the darker more realistic fatalities just love them, they look gorgeous. If that kind of stuff bothers anybody then they should probably sit this one out. ESRB was made for a reason, to allow people to get an idea of the content within the game before playing or seeing it, use it people lol

I guess these guys get a pass since im assuming it is like their job to look and play new games though. Idk it just baffles me that people are still wining about the violence in MK.

Well I think people are allowed to be surprised by the detail of the violence. Blowing holes through people and ripping out their hearts isn't anything new to video games, especially MK, but with the jump in tech everything is that much more detailed and gruesome looking.

Also remember that fatalities haven't been truly, truly shocking in years. They were ridiculous in MK3 and the execution was off in MK4 (they looked awkward). MKDA-MKA weren't particularly brutal or shocking and with the former we got that popcorn effect. MKA and MKvsDCU had watered down finishers and even MK9 had people mostly falling apart at a healthy distance.

These are probably the most salacious fatalities in two decades.

I like them thogrin

I don't mind the graphics getting better that causes the fatalities to get even gorier. I'm playing a game that has you killing your opponent as a "haha I won you lost" thing. If I can't handle this, something is wrong. I've played games all my life, and only one game had a negative effect on me (in the strangest way). Other than that, a little more gore added won't hurt me and shouldn't.

I don't think the fatalities are shocking. They're fine, but far far away from shocking. I hope to see really shocking ones like for instance inspired by the fatalities threads that was around here for millennium.

Just a question here.

Why does most people only refer to the Sega Genesis version of MK1?

Scorpion, Sonya, Kano and Liu Kang are the only ones who had the same fatalities on both, Sega and Snes.

Sega:

Raiden: Head Explosion
Sub-Zero: Spine Rip
Johnny Cage: Head Decap

Snes:

Raiden: Desinigrate
Sub-Zero: Deep Freeze Shatter
Johnny Cage: Foot Implant

Read and understand!

The 4 of 7 that I mentioned, their fatalities are the same on Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. However, the other 3 of the 7 have different fatalities for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo.

Whenever a MK1 fatality comes up in a post ( rather it's Raiden's, Subs or Johnny's), it is always referred back to Sega Genesis version.

If this is not more simplified, then learn how to read, how it's written and understand.

Just go on youtube and type in Mortal Kombat Super Nintendo fatalities. Watch it and pay attention to Raiden's, Johnny's and Sub-Zero's. Then go watch the one for Sega Genesis. Again, watch the fatalities for the ones I mentioned above in this post.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ESRB makes them take the visible testes out of Cassie's X-Ray to get an M rating. That's really the only "gore" element I've heard about or seen in the game so far that seems like it'd be "going too far".
P.S. I will go to my grave saying that Raiden's "censored" SNES finisher is far cooler and more creative looking than the arcade original.

Well you can shoot nazis in the nuts in "Sniper Elite 3" with visible testes that explode on impact, and that's an M rated game. They're still fine.

In all these years, I've never seen the SNES fatalities of MK1. I only heard of Johnny Cage's. Seems like MK2 Sub-Zero fatality was based of his SNES MK1.
Raiden MK1 fatality is cool! Maybe they should put that one in MKX, ofcourse a bit updated. Should be able to make it cool (evidence in Raiden first X-ray reveal of MKX)

Well.. no game can impressed me with his gore. Only in movies it's totally different for me.. I have a good example for this.. Anyone watched the fight between Obery Martell and The Mountain in Game Of Thrones? Watch it, and tell me how brutal it was - something that Mortal Kombat will never be and i'm glad about it.

Yes, Raiden's MK1 Snes fatality is cool and better then his MK1 fatality on Sega.
Sub-Zero's MK2 Deep Freeze is totally based off the one from MK1. Although, you have to do two different button combonations in MK2.
As for Johnny Cage's MK1 snes fatality, he implants his foot in his foes abdomen and they have a seizure or get nerve damage.

100% agree with you. That scene literally made me sick to my stomach. Waaaay too graphic for my tastes.

I mean, unrealistic? Of course. I don't think anybody could pull off what the Mountain did.

But it was still too real/violent for me. I'll stick with MK violence, thankyouverymuch. grin

I wonder if X-Rays being in slow motion will play apart. We'd have a good look and that might effect the rating.
