I didn't see this posted anywhere, but also bare in mind that I have not read any of the threads that contain spoilers so it may or may not have been discussed in there.

As far as I know, none of the following information is really "new", but it did clarify some details about these modes that I personally wasn't sure about, so I thought I'd post it just in case some had the same questions/concerns. Derek Kirtzic is providing the information for the article.

The Challenge Towers - "Reincarnated from MK9 in the form of three separate towers that the studio plans to update regularly. One tower updates on the hour with damage modifiers and event frequency increasing as you climb higher, and another changes each day and provides random modifiers with more chaotic permutations for each challenge. The third is designed around special occasions. This premier tower changes every week on average, and includes holiday and special event towers. Players can choose their character for each challenge."
Here, the article notes that Kirtzic was tight-lipped about them simply saying "You'll just have to see what we have in store."

Now, this next bit is the information that clarified some of my confusion about the Factions. Specifically, OFFLINE players.

Faction Wars - "Every action players do in-game - whether in online or single player modes - earn points for their team. Daily faction challenges such as "Perform five uppercuts today" or "Win two ranked matches" also reward points to the factions with players who complete them." "Kirtzic insists NetherRealm is not abandoning players who enjoy playing offline." (HEYO!!!)

"You do not have to play online or in online game modes to participate in the Faction system," says Kirtzic. "We also want to make sure there's enough content for the people that just like to play single-player and don't like to get their ass kicked online." (V.V)

That about sums up the article. It only covers two pages, and is basically a recap, but that last bit extracted a sigh of relief on my behalf. I was under the impression that you had to be online to participate.

The articles also states that PS3/360 versions will still be available on April 14th. Probably a misprint, but sharing that nonetheless. Also touches on interactables, and the variety in character model sizes. (Ferra/Torr noted)

Hope this was helpful for anyone who still had some confusion on the matter!

Boon said you need to be connected to the Internet to contribute to faction wars...positive of this. And that makes since.

Nah. Mad Max graces the cover.

Misinterpreted his tweet then. I'll edit the OP. Thanks!

Did it say anything about the netcode for MKX?

Nope. =/

I also just realized there's an ad in there for the MKX Official Wired Fight Pad. Pretty neat. The ad, not the pad, haha.

Mentions Quan Chi will be a "formidable opponent for players" as well.

Yeah, you don't have to play online modes, but you have to be connected to online in order for your offline actions to be uploaded to the servers.

You have to be always online if you want to contribute to your faction. Otherwise there is no way in hell your contribution would register, because you are not connect for it to register.

Seems weird that it says you can do it offline, maybe they mean you can play single player and contribute not that you are offline.

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know shit about online play. On the [extremely] rare occasion that I went online with MK9, it was straight up 1v1 or tag team fights. Didn't even fool with KOTH.

The concept of having your system connected but not actually playing the online modes and still contributing to the Faction Wars didn't even cross my mind.

But alas, now it all makes sense.

Awesome, thanks dude. Cool how the things we do in single player still contribute to our faction. I do play online but not until I have done most of the single player stuff, so this is cool.

And yeah thanks OP for getting us this info, I didn't get to thank you in my previous post. Was too busy thinking of flaws in the info lol. But thanks :).

Oh, I don't really play online, but I know online is a BIG factor in a games success and longevity and I don't want MKX to fail in that aspect. They've put so much into this that that one minor thing can really hurt MKX in the long run. sad

Not a problem guys!

I'm actually way surprised that someone hadn't mentioned this article yet.

Agreed. Although, judging by what we've seen and been given so far, NRS has learned from ALL of their mistakes in previous titles. And I mean in every aspect. Character models, female modesty, facial features, efforts in different modes to influence players to keep playing, voice acting, story presentation, the list goes on and on.

If I'm not mistaken, the netcode was a HUGE deal for online players regarding MK9. So I've got a feeling that they most likely covered that issue as well.

I didn't mention this article last week because I was thoroughly disappointed in the content of the article & the fact MKX didn't get the cover. I expected more out if GI.

All it means is that you can play and add to the faction offline. The points gained would not upload online, though.

It's impossible for anything you do offline to contribute to the actual war online without an internet connection.

For now that is the faction I will be joining. The only reason I am hesitant is because I don't like Quan Chi, but I do like the majority of the other Brotherhood related characters lol

Right. You still have to be connected to participate in Factions and at least the Special Event towers, of course. But things you do in Single Player modes will reward you points that will add to your Faction's scores.

If you have no internet connection then modes like Factions likely won't apply to you.
