I Know endings are mostly non-canon, but what if Liu's MK9 ending is canon? Will we see him as the Fire God?
I sure hope he is in with new or past attire. Yes, Liu did have the one same look in most of the games.
His 3 variations that he could have are Fire God, Shaolin and maybe Zombie? I would like for him to have the fatal uppercut as a special move like he had in a past game (MK9?).
New never seen before Fatalities are a must for this guy!
I'd like to know what everyone's take is on Liu returning?

I reckon he's the boss. Evil God Kang. Hopefully unplayable

I sure hope not I'm thinking that Quan Chi or Shinnok will probably be the boss. However, if it turned out to be Evil God Liu Kang, that would be extreme!

Maybe because of everything he's done and everything he was to the franchise, i would easily see Liu coming back as a god after his MK9 death. A boss? Well, even though i'm not dismissing that possibility, i sure hope not and i admit i would be surprised.
Nah. I just think his fate would be rather ridiculed if he turned into a boss. They would have the complete freedom to throw him out after one or 2 appearances. Or feel like they would have to make a Shao Kahn out of him. I dunno.

IF that was the case and the ending is canon, I wouldn't really want him as a boss. Bit of a let down.
However, Id welcome his return as a playable character. Yeah he "dies" in MK9, but we don't actually see his soul fall into Quan Chi's possession like the rest. So who REALLY knows? I'd say his inclusion is definitely possible.

Having Liu Kang as the boss would be the most cliche, silliest shit they could do. It's so simple that everyone is guessing he's the possible boss. Which tells me, he isn't. Not only because it's stupid, but because how unoriginal it is.

I see him in but not as a fire god.

Liu Kang has to defeat Raiden first in order to get the Fire God status. But Liu Kang didn't bother asking the Elder Gods for that chance in Story Mode. So too late now.

Welp, he's not the hero anymore. It's time for someone else and NRS thought so too, which is why they killed him.
If he somehow survived or is resurrected, he seemed real butthurt about Kitana's death. So why not make it his #1 priority to save her soul or resurrect her. Even if it means plowing through the good guys.
There's a different twist. It puts him on the back burner, giving someone else a chance to be the hero, but still keeps him relevant.

I like the idea of Kang being the fire god. I also like the idea of him having the only animality in the game where he turns into a dragon and eats his opponent.

Thanks for all your opinions thus far. I truly enjoyed reading them.
All I really care about is that Liu is in and playable on the main roster. Since he "died" does anyone think he could come back at least as a zombie/undead? I just hope they give him a sweet arsenal of specials and new interesting fatalities. If Liu has the zombie/undead for a variation, he should have the chains and able to use them.

Why should arcade endings matter if we have a story mode? Wouldn't that kinda not make sense to have two different stories intertwine with each other?

Aside from the fact that the endings come from beating Shao Kahn they're not really different stories. There are always endings that are partially-canon or at least indirectly reveal something that will carry on to the next(Noob's MKD ending).
Obviously endings like Mileena and Baraka contradict the story mode but the ones that don't contradict can still carry on to MKX.

I still stand by my assumption that Liu is the big bad. Given the hints we've received and what happened in the previous storymode, it just makes sense.

He couldn't beat Raiden and he's supposed to be the final boss? Please.
And Liu Kang won't be a god. He didn't kill Shao Kahn and fought against Raiden.
My comment is copy&pasted from the other Liu Kang thread from today.
Remember, QuanChi told Raiden that he made a deal with Shao Kahn to get the soul of anyone who died during MK9. Since "deal-making" is kinda the thang to do when the NetherRealm is involved, I really think Shinnok/QC will make a deal with Liu Kang. Liu will be the Champion of the NetherRealm, and in return, the fallen MK9 heroes are resurrected.
This would be a simple solution to get back some old favorites, AND we'd have a more powerful Liu Kang. He could still want revenge against Raiden, but he still remains heroic and noble.
As for his look, i'd like him to look completely normal. I'd give him a pair of boots. LoL. Maybe some upper-body armor for his ALT.
V1- Dragon
V2- Shaolin
V3- Fire God
