Liu being a descendant of Great Kung Lao isn't really canon.

It was done in the movie because Kung Lao wasn't a character in the movie, then Tobias briefly tried to retcon it into MK4 to prevent confusing people who thought the film was an accurate reflection of canon, but it never really fit because Kung Lao is always referred to as "the last descendant" meaning he has to be the only one left, so it was never mentioned again. MKSM even made it a minor plot point that they have different ancestors.

I think Ed was referring to the very thought of Johnny consciously brutally murdering his daughter being strange to some people. He may be the biggest douche in the world, he's no Kano though.

From that list, probably the only 2 that aren't blood related are the 2 that I have the hardest time picturing killing each other. Kung Lao might have been jealous at times, but not that much.

In fact any of the good guys performing fatalities on each other is hard to imagine (¿Sub-Zero and best friend forever Smoke?), but it's just part of the game, when you reach that "finish him" part, it's just an abstraction.

It's for fun dude. Not because its canon.

This will be the 1st time that both family members r good guys (if Johnny or Sonya make it in). But I think for this reason, we will c Friendship and/or HaraKiri return. Esp since NRS is "ahead of schedule" according to another interview.

Is the tournament dissolved after the events of mk9? I ask this becuz tournament rules had EarthRealm fighters vs Outworld fighters, so family members wouldn't battle anyway (story-wise). But mk4-mkA all seemed like a war, not a tournament

it's just a game and the characters are fictional. So to answer the question, it's no big deal.
