The Red Dragon hasn't been announced as a faction. And the faction you choose doesn't restrict your choice of characters, so there's little reason for NRS to balance them like that--especially when all of those characters you've listed would be way too many for them to do.

There is no Red Dragon faction (sadly). Also missing is the Shirai Ryu, the Tekunin, the Seido Guard, and the Edenian Elite.

KotaL Kahn probly has a "team" in the game, but they arent a faction either. He is shown in the comics hanging out with Ferra/Torr, Dvorah, Reptile, and Erron Black. There's also been shown a team-up of Reiko & Mileena to war with them. Do they have a posse? Baraka? Goro?

But to your point, I dont think everyone on the roster HAS to be in a faction. However, I do think at least 3 fighters will be in each one. I mean, how do you have a faction without members?

My predictions, by rule of at Least 3... (which is hard becuz we still have at least 13 unconfirmed roster spots)

White Lotus- Raiden, Kung Lao, Liu Kang

SpeciaL Forces- Cassie, Sonya, Jax

BrotherHood of Shadow- QuanChi, Noob Saibot, Tanya

Lin Kuei- SubZero, Smoke (or someone new), Scorpion (I think skorp will join the Lin Kuei in story mode, seeing as that his clan was massacred a 2nd time. Finally squashing his rivalry with SZ)

Black Dragon- Kano, somebody new, Tremor (holding my breath for this one. LoL)

I don't believe the factions are a very useful for hinting characters, they are mostly just for the faction system to have recognizable MK titles.

Most of the Outworld Characters, who I believe will be an important part of the roster, don't belong to any of this factions, at least directly.

Yeah I could picture Cyrax remaining Lin Kuei instead of joining the Special Forces/Outer World Investigation Agency IF Kuai Liang became its grandmaster and discontinued the automation program.

I would like kotal to be AFFILIATED with the Black Dragon only bc he wants the Red Dragon Eradicated. So a Temp alliance if you will

If im lucky enough to get Cyrax, it would be cool to see him rep the White Lotus bc thats who saved him in his MK9 Ending. But also the obvious choices would be Lin Kuei or Special Forces

Scorpion and Sub-Zero have a dialogue where they call each other Lin Kuei scum and Shirai Ryu dog, so even if the squash the rivalry (which I hope they do now that Quan Chi's plot should come to the light) I don't think they would go as far as Scorpion entering the Lin Kuei, specially under Sub-Zero's leadership (he's the confirmed Grandmaster, both by his variation and by the faction wars).

Also, as others said, I don't think the factions mean that much apart of aesthetics and probably unique "faction finishers", you could be playing as Kung Lao for the Black Dragon for example.

Still baffled as to why the Shirai Ryu isn't a selectable faction. If it really has nothing to do with any characters or major applicable elements, why not?

I was surprised too, specially since Ed loves Scorpion so much that every single edition of the game features him in some form and even the logo of the company looks like Scorpion, but maybe the factions chosen needed to at least be relevant for the story and the Shirai Ryu is only relevant as something that no longer exists to fuel Scorpion's rage rather than being an organization that influences the war like the others.

I don't know if we can read to far into the factions equating to characters in the game because as previously stated a good chunk of the roster are outworld characters that aren't attached to the factions ..... Well not yet anyway! But I think they just put these factions in primarily for the online play and that these are just the most recognisable groups in the mortal kombat universe.
As far as characters for these factions go I see a few more being added to the brotherhood hopefully Noob and Tanya some more for special forces maybe jacqui Briggs, Cyrax and kenshi, maybe another new character for the White lotus but that would just about fill the roster so I don't really see the factions playing too big of a role on which characters make it but I would expect at least two characters from each faction in the game otherwise it does seem kind of pointless having the factions!

They probably have new characters to fill these factions.

I didn't mean that it needed to include all characters. But it might be equally spread out, therefore giving each game faction playable representation. I think it would be weird to have like 4 white lotus affiliated characters and one black dragon, etc.

The video also said that the realms invade from time to time, which gives hope to realm representatives. Like hotaru for order realm, havik for chaos realm, etc.

Kung Lao and Kitana will be added to the Brotherhood of Shadows. The same for the other fallen heroes controlled by the sorcerer Quan Chi.

I don't think we can use factions to hint characters to be honest. Okay, if Raiden hadn't been announced and we saw the White Lotus that's one thing, but I'm not sure we can extrapolate to the rest of the roster
