Do you think MK8 will be a prequel to MK1?

Boon said that MK7 was the last Mortal Kombat as we know it, introducing an entirely new roster of characters in the next installment. He could've just been hinting at an MK1 prequel, instead of having all of the fighters that we grew up with killed off after MKA.

I thought you left?

Anyway, it would be an interesting twist if that did actually happen, but Boon is too stupid to go that route.

I personally hope it's a whole new roster of characters, outside of reinventing a few key characters (I just need a Reptile to have fun, sorry). Even if they all have new identities / names I'm guessing the theme characters will continue on somehow (such as Scorpion becoming S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N. and being a cyborg in a new storyline).

Only thing about making it a prequel to MK 1 is, we know how all the tournaments end from 1492-to MK's 1992.

GORO WINS.

I suppose, it could be the tournament where the Great Kung Lao defeats young Shang Tsung, which might be interesting, but where could they go from there? Have time travel themes with the modern characters changing MK history? Ugh, I hope not.

That doesn't mean anything. Devil May Cry 3 was after Devil May Cry 2, but it was a prequel story wise. The prequel idea would be interesting, maybe even something near the era of the rise of Kahn.

true. i like your idea, lets see how Kahn rose through... it would be very.... very interesting.

i think that MK8 should be a prequel, not a sequel... if it is... please let it not be a sequel to Armageddon... that would be stupid. Becuase then you'll be having Sub-Zero as a god, Shang Tsung as a surpreme ruler of outworld, kahn as a centaur slave... please, almost the majority of the endings of Armageddon made no sense to that character.

The main point there is the end of MK "as we know it." That means it's just gonna get an overhaul, but that said a prequel would be interesting.

Yea, a prequel wouldn't really work, on second thought.

It either needs to be 100s of years before MK1, or hundreds of years after MKA.

In other words, it doesn't matter if it is a sequal or a prequal, it just needs to be a really massive distance away from these events.

really guys,bu hwat thing do you smoke?

We NEED to know how in the hell ends the armageddon thing, before talking abut sequel and or prequel.
i want to know wha the hell hapnes after armageddon,'cause even if is the worse mk fighting game is also the most important chapter.
after we get the aftermath we can talk of prequel and/or sequel.

really i don't like the idea of the great kung lao(i neither can tolerate this kung lao) and maybe some co-protagonist(Siro?taja?please NO)
with all the respect if you wan t a prequel watch mk conquest, but please let the mk history keep going on!

Screw a sequel or a prequel, let's just reboot the entire franchise. They've already screwed the current storyline all to hell, why bother resuscitating it?

No, because we already know who wins. It'd be kind of stupid.

Here's a better idea, then. Fire Boon, fire Vogel. Then put the franchise in the hands of a team who has at least half a brain cell between the lot of them and actually cares about restoring the unstoppable cultural phenomenon that Mortal Kombat used to be.

Like a bunch of people already stated, it wouldn't make sense to make a prequel since we already know how it would all end. Goro was undisputed up until Lui Kang defeated him. Having new characters wouldn't make sense since we know that, by nature Goro isn't a very merciful being. He would've killed every contender if he was giving the chance to.

No, I really think that MK8 is going to take place after the events of MKA. How far along is left to be seen. Maybe far enough to where many of the mortal characters have died off, so people like Sub-Zero, Sonya, Jax, and most of the people from Earthrealm have passed away. Then again, there could be another reason for a brand new batch of fighters.

I had you up until "fire Vogel". He does care, if you hadn't noticed. He wanted to release bios, and then Midway told him no. So he started to write them, just for the fans. He needs to be creative director of the game, not Boon. But I highly doubt they'd fire Boon now, so it would just be better if they gave the MK team more than 2 years to work on MK8.

As for the prequel idea, not a chance.

If you want my professional opinion/analysis, an MK1 prequel is inevitable. If not MK8, then a later game.

Ninja Mime is back?

And UltimateRyu, a prequel to MK1 would be stupid, unless you want to go really far back, to like the time Shinnok faced the other gods. Or anything before The Great Kung Lao beat Shang Tsung. ANything after that would be fruitless.

HELL YEA! that would be a great twist to MORTAL KOMBAT and would totaly boost the hype of the series. I might even provoke the tendancy to recreate some of the older mk games.

I just wanna mention the last time we got a complete mk overhaul really was when we got mortal kombat 4 in the arcades.... Now that being said and mk4 being a decent 3d fighter it was by far not anything close to level of the mk1 mk2 mk3 and umk3 and (mktrilogy) games so just keep in mind we may have to endure some tough growing pains between these three mkda mkd and mka and mk8. MK 9 now that game will be the correct version of mk8. Kinda like when they wanted to make mk 3d the got mk4 one try then changed the fighting system to the present 3d. Think about it

I have to say that I completely agree with Anansi. The series really needs to be given to another development team and MK8 should be a complete reboot of the franchise that would hopefully bring MK back to it's former glory. That's not to say that Boon should not be involved; he should be on the development team as an advisor or something.
