They can't, that's the whole point of the teaser. We can only speculate.

There is more to the shoe in the pic. You got to look at the part of the leg that is visible. On the shin, is a burnt area. Also, don't forget about the whit stockings/tape (or whatever), around his legs below the knees in his MK9 Alt.

For the record, it's mostly just speculation that I want it to be Liu Kang.

like all we know that we didn't have Lui Kang's spirit for a fighter. we only have Lui Kang spirit on Mortal Kombat Deception Conquest Training . and we already have zombie Lui Kang's so if you looking for something new so you should put Lui Kang's spirit on Mortal Kombat X. well the pointis is that i really want Lui Kang's spirit on mortal Kombat X.
