With the elderly Kung Lao reveal and Sub-Zero's identity still unknown, is it possible that someone has opened doorways into alternate realities to recruit warriors of different timelines/dimensions?
Two being:
The Great Kung Lao...
Bi-Han before his Noob resurrection...

I really like that idea! They sort of did it with Injustice, but they could really take it further in MKX. Guess we'll have to wait and see

So they just do what Injustice did? I'd like to see something a little more original.

If it were The Great Kung Lao, wouldn't he be bald?

And why so old? I didn't remember that he was old, and being MK Champion, he never aged.
And why same clothes and hat like actual Kung Lao? Was the actual Kung Lao nothing but a weak carbon-copy of the Great Kung Lao? Because I remember the Great Kung Lao more like Liu Kang but bald...

I find it plausible for The Great Kung Lao to be able to jump through realities as he was a Champion of MK and he can withstand the process but I assume Bi Han's body is not powerful enough to achieve this feat, especially as he does not have shadow portals.
I dunno, I feel like when you're messing with alternate realities and such, you'll get an outcome like Bioshock Infinite, where it takes months to explain what exactly happened.
Same thing with Warlords of Draenor, we're in a different time, different reality and people still have no fucking clue what the heck is going on.
I don't feel that the series needs to take a complex concept and use it to tell a story when they can't even be consistent with the story they have already, let alone tell a decent one.

Oh please no.....despite the fact that I absolutely hate the whole alternate/parallel universe thing, the MK universe has barely fleshed out its own realms.

@Medusa -
Your sig makes me smile.
"If that's too cryptic, let's get literal."
So... people would be mad if characters are resurrected with the use of powers that have been shown to work for that so it's logical and doesn't break canon, but they're fine if we just mix different incarnations of the same characters from different realities in a total deux ex machina that allows all kinds of non sense to come into play? What??

Hmm there is a lot they could do with a different dimension like if Liu Kang was evil in an alternate timeline we might see him instead of the dead one. I just used that as a possible hint.

I know I had a similar theory before the e3 reveal when only the name was announced (and reveal trailer).
After e3 we found out the game had to do with a 25 year timeline and the multiverse theory kind of went away. (It was prominent enough to be mention by MKO itself prior to e3)
Good on the OP for bringing it back to life.
I am sure quan chi could possess that kind of power, and it would make sense as a way to bring back dead characters.
