Before I joined this forum I seriously NEVER even heard an MK fan bring his name. I slightly remember him for having a Khan fetish in Armageddon and for him being a last minute Noob replacement in MK4. But here he's always the go-to 3D era name and treated like royalty.

Can someone explain the obsession with him on this forum? Is it some kind of cult that i'm not aware?

Guy always potential to be so much more than he ever was. Had a bit of swagger to him that was unique.

I think some people are just so desperate for post MK3 people that his inclusion seemed exciting.

Well in my opinion he had the most enjoyable gameplay of MKA.

I also liked his very brief Konquest mode scene, he seemed regal and suave and I feel that there is a lot of places his story COULD have went, but likely never will, but he is currently very popular because of the MKX comics.

There's not much to explain. People were just intrigued with the plot and significance he was given in the comics and wanted to see that translated to screen.

That's about it.

He's always been a mysterious figure, for one, which tends to garner attention.
His suave portrayal in Armageddon further increased his popularity.

With the comics showing him to be a key player who's considered to be a major threat with a great deal of cunning, the sentiment has skyrocketed in his favor.

Wait, even BEFORE the comics people were crying out his name.

I understand there was a whole (in hindsight) naive, "can't wait to see what remastered MK4 characters look like" movement the second MK9 finished, but even before Kai and Shinnok people were already dying to see him in this game.
