Bonus/Secret content going forward

Along with the combo system thread that I started before, I was curious to see not only what TYPE of bonus content should be in the next MK game, but HOW this content should be delivered as well.

In MK1: Bonus character: Fight Reptile
Bonus stage: The Bottom of the Pit

In MK2: Bonus characters: Fight Jade, Smoke and Noob Saibot
Bonus stage: Blue Portal or Goro's Lair
Bonus fatality: Kintaro Morph


In MK3: Bonus characters: Play as Robot Smoke through a kode
Unlock various secrets at Vs screen with kodes
Change to Human Smoke


In UMK3: Bonus characters: Play as Mileena, Classic Sub Zero and Ermac
Open Khan's vault: Ultimate demonstration, fight Noob and a
whole lot more.

In MKT: Switch to classic costumes for Rayden, Kung Lao, Kano and Jax.

In MK4: Bonus characters: Fight as Noob, Goro and Meat

In MK:DA: Bonus characters: Unlock half of the cast in the krypt.
Bonus characters: Fight as Blaze and Mokap
The Krypt containing a wide range of kontent that you pay for

In MK:D: Bonus characters: Unlock half of the cast in the krypt
The Krypt returns

In MK:A: Bonus characters: Unlock Taven and Daegon
The Krypt returns...Again

In MKvsDC: Bonus characters: Unloke Shao Khan and Darkseid

Okay... I know that was a VERY brief run through of all of the secrets and I didn't really even cover how those secrets were presented. But let's face it, as far as easter eggs, bonus content ranging from promotional stills and motion capture to fighting bonus characters and fighting AS bonus characters, MK wrote the book and in my opinion, continues to be the standard bearer in the secrets department.

But I think that while the krypt was somewhat of a nice innovation in MK:DA, a lot of people didn't like the idea that there was a designated place to unlock hidden characters. A sort of "one stop shop" for secrets.

By the time MKA came out, I think that a lot of people kind of saw the whole krypt idea as a bit unnecessary.

Some people voiced opinions about wanting the game to return to its more mysterious roots along the lines of seeing thigs cross the sky in the moonlight, Reptile providing hints, seeing characters peak out form behind the trees in the Living Forest... The list goes on.

My question is simple then, but I'll restate it: What TYPE of content do you want to see in MK games going forward?

Hidden characters in the back ground?
Super unlockable characters?
Characters that you can only fight but can't use?
Bonus stages?
Production art?
Funny pictures from the MK team?
Extra costumes (a lot or only a few)?
Special moves?
Background contexts (say, having a regular pagota versus one on fire)?
Anything else?

Also...HOW do you want to see it presented?

Bring back the krypt?
See what's hidden first (ie, Smoke & Jade in the Living Forest)?
Time sensetive unlockables?
Context sensetive unlockables (ie, beat the game with someone that's in another character's story and unlock that character)?
Kombat Kodes?
Kurrency, but no krypt?
Something new?

I was just kinda curious as to what people's preferences were in this regard when it comes to the next game...

I would like things that are in the game that are extrememly hard to accomplish. So when you play online and have something. People know youve dedicated yourself completely to the cause.

Beat Arcade mode on max difficulty without losing a single round: unlock a costume or colour swap for that character.

Beat Arcade mode with ALL characters(primarycostume) on MAX difficulty without dying: unlock 2 (super unlockable characters)

do the same on MAX with alternate costumes without dying: unlock another 2 super unlockables.

For each character we complete story/arcade with. we unlock their partnered unlockable character. We start with 50%, unlock 50%.

only one character can be unlocked per default character. not really secret but i figured id throw that one in there.

other than that. Id love to just keep the formula the same, certain stages and accomplishments, secret battles or characters. If theres a story mode, have special things happen upon flawless victories giving us more to achieve or unlock. maybe a multiple path story mode individual to each character.

I miss the MK1-3 style secrets. Character pops up with a vague hint. All the rumors of unlocking them to use after beating them. That was fun.

The Krypt can be a bit tedious, but it has some nice elements.
I like the concept art, behind the scenes stuff, and some of the joke pics. It's nice to see the MK team jabs fun at MK like we do.

Team photos are tedious to unlock. Perhaps they should be added to one big movie/slideshow instead.

It'd be nice to fight a secret character a secret way, and unlock them to use after fighting them. Or have the code to unlock them show up after beating them. Maybe have a story message, like "Smoke's mission is comprimised! Prepare for Kombat!" or something like back in the day, y'know?

Hmmm.... seem like SF4-ish achievements, It would definitely means that you have to be serious about play MK. I like it. Nice ideas.

I would like to fight a bonus fighter before or after I beat the boss and if I win I'll unlock an arena and/or fighter. I would also like to see extra scenarios in the story mode (if there's going to be one). Come whatever may is all I have to say.

I'm actually not a big fan of the super secrets of MK. They are usually hard to achieve and I don't think there worth the amount of effort. I just like the krypt or something like it to unlock stuff rather than jumping threw hopes to fight a pallete swap ninja. I really don't like this crap at all, but back in the arcade days I think it was pretty cool. However, it is 2010 and consoles are the future and super secrets almost take away from the game.

I was actually thinking more like Tekken2 but yea. The formula is the same i guess. Only played SF4 like 2 times. I feel its the Best.

I would also like to be able to REBUY koffins. then immagine the bs they could hide.

buy NO-OB-SA-IB-OT. in that order and unlock guess who??? I think thatd create CRAZY bs in the forums. People claiming really long ones and other users wasting their hard-earned coins for a big laugh at a fail.

Boon would be able to hint and tease until the next MK with that bs.
