Are you relieved that MKX is being developed with a next gen baseline?

posted06/03/2014 01:50 PM (UTC)byUltimateRyuI know I am. Usually cross-generation games in development so close to the leap use the weaker consoles as the baseline. However thankfully it looks like this is not the case with MKX. WB and NRS are taking a bold step in the right direction and I think it will pay off in the long run. They will need to water down the experience for PS3/X360 and not the other way around. You really don't see this very often. Now I have a reason to go next gen.

I never understood why people were assuming that this wouldn't be the case. Of course they have Xbox One & PS4 as the main focus.
That said, I'm happy it is cross gen.

The developers/publishers usually go to where the money is at.
At this point in the next gen cycle that would be the larger install base on last gen consoles so it makes sense to optimize their hottest new games for them. NRS is breaking free from that trend.

Is this confirmed, though? Did I miss something in the article?

Well it's kinda implied from the press release. Also, some parts of the trailer transition to actual gameplay if you pay careful attention. That stuff isn't possible last gen.

I definitely hope you're right. If they're not going to make the game next-gen exclusive, I want them to at least create the incentive to go next-gen so we can have a more populated online.

None of the trailer is gameplay. It's been confirmed. This topic is pure speculation.

Since this game is using Unreal 4, does that mean that this will be the first Unreal 4 game to be on last gen consoles? Or are the last gen consoles using a different engine?

Interesting, the youtube video says "fueled by next gen technology" I didn't think until now it was the UR4 engine. So what the fuck is going on with the last gen versions? Not that I care, other than the new gen being the main focus.

Sadly it's looking like there is actually nothing next gen about this title. Unreal engine 3, last gen consoles. It's MK Armageddon all over again.
I will reserve judgement for E3, but I'm willing to bet, at least visually, it's going to be dated as hell looking.
