In the earlier MK games Sonya's energy rings were almost chi like where they generated from withing her body and focused and emitted through her hands/wrists. Now in the later games the rings seem to come from a machine that is attached to her hands. Do you think this technology just enhances her energy rings or are they kinda retconning her character to be more tech oriented? Here is an example of this in MKX:

It could've originally been created by her and retconned (in fact I could see that actually) but I always just assumed she was hiding some small wrist device thing.

As you said, it's been stated way back when that her ability is Chi-based, and it emanated from her entire body in early games. Therefore, I would personally say the gauntlet mount is there to enhance or direct her innate ability; marrying aspects from both timelines and designs builds her up as a character, as opposed to taking something away from her or completely changing her to be solely tech-oriented.

I hope those things in her arms are not what makes her able to use the Ring Blast, it was always Chi based, there is no reason to take that away now, the fact that it is Chi based also makes her seem more powerfull.

But if they change that she will still have the Deadly Kiss for Chi abilities.

Considering she was able to change the power level from merely offensive to lethal in MKA I'm going to say tech. It seems to be the same kind of energy Jax produces as well so yeah, tech.

It has been retconned from chi to technology.
It was obvious in Mk vs Dcu.

If MKvs.DCU isn't canon then why in the hell is MKX called MKX instead of Mortal Kombat 9? It fucking irks me that Mk vs. DCU is thought of as "MK9" even though MK vs. DCU is OBVIOUSLY not canon as far as story goes...lazy bullshit.

MK vs DC is actually MK8.

MK 2011 is MK9.

But I agree completely with your overall point.

It just got nicknamed MK8 while it was still in development, before anyone knew DC was involved, then even after the game was announced, released, and proven non-canon, the numbering still stuck, and people later called Mortal Kombat 2011 MK9 for some reason.

Neither of them is actually officially named 8 or 9, so it's not like it's something that can be or needs to be changed, per say, it's just terminology that happened to get widespread enough to stick. Really it's our fault as fancs for coining the terminology and spreading it around. Can't do much about it now.

PS. MKX is pronounced "Mortal Kombat Ex" not "Mortal Kombat Ten" The developers have referred to it as such when speaking it aloud. So this one isn't technically numbered either. Though the title does have an obvious wink and a nod to the Roman Numeral Ten.

I think is tech. At least that's what I remember from MK9, iirc she used some sort of wrist device and pressed on it to shoot.
