MK v. DCU sequel?

I'm thinking we'll get a real MK for MK10 and then an MK v. DCU sequel for 11 and... I'm actually okay with that. With the new mechanics in place I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Plus we'll likely have a much nicer roster than the original.

I would enjoy a sequel to MKvsDC. I think it'd be especially fun if the story actually picked up and ran with some of the crazy ideas from the endings, like Sonya with a GL ring or Shao Kahn leading an army of Phantom Zone criminals.

As far as crossovers go, I feel MK vs DCU has a lot of potential. I think they could go quite far with it, like introducing new characters connected to both universes, such as say, a Tarkatan member of the GL or Sinestro Corps.

There were so many missed opportunities in the first one. Not enough women or "freaks" such as a Shokan or Clayface. The Joker's lack of a Smilex gas fatality. And so on.

If a sequel ever comes out, Freddy should make an appearance as a guest again. He's got a surprising amount of non-gory kills that would work as T-rated fatalities (like I said in my Freddy thread), if the game was t-rated of course.

If the gameplay is in the style of the new MK, then I might look into it.

I would rather prefer a full on DCU game based on the current engine.

But I would be very lying if I couldn't think of some things I wouldn't mind in a MK V DCU 2.

Mileena and Harley Quinn buddy buddy chapter.
Johnny Cage flirting with Power Girl.
"Jokerization" as a fatality
The inevitable Quan Vs Luthor betrayal war. Money is on the bald man... Luthor.
Black Adam's punching a person's face through their skull fatality.

If it plays like MK9 with 2D and is balanced, I will support it, but the roster make up needs to be different for me to take an interest.

I would love if the roster looked something like this:

Mortal Kombat-----------------------DCUniverse
Liu Kang------------------------------Superman
Sonya-----------------------------------Hawkgirl
Johnny Cage-------------------------The Flash
Shang Tsung-----------------------Scarecrow
Goro or Sheeva-----------------------Clayface
Reptile--------------------------------Killer Croc
Mileena-----------------------------Harley Quinn
Stryker-------------------------------Batman or Gear
Kitana---------------------------------Catwoman
Havik-----------------------------------The Joker
Kano------------------------------------Deathstroke
Quan Chi-------------------------------Lex Luthor
Scorpion-------------------------------Martian Manhunter
Sub-Zero--------------------------------Green Lantern
Jade--------------------------------------Wonder Woman
Raiden-----------------------------------Braniac
Baraka-------------------------------------Bane
Jax--------------------------------------------Slade
Kung Lao-------------------------------------Robin
Sindel-------------------------------------------Poison Ivy

Boss rotating between Shao Kahn and Darkseide.

The combination of the DCnU continuity and the Time Altering of MK9 means that it could very well be treated as if the first never happened.

Which means we could get a much better plot than in the first without it being weighed down BY the plot of the first.

You don't even need an in-universe excuse to ignore the first game's story. It was a non-canon game, meaning that they could make dozen more MKVDCU games, all ignoring the previous installements' stories, and have repeated first encounters between the two universes. Not saying that I'd want that, but for the second game (if it was made) I would be fine with it.

Speaking of the story, I think they should actually have characters die. Take advantage of the non-canon nature of the crossover and kill off major characters such as Batman or Liu Kang. Another much needed improvement is for the story to be more than a misunderstanding between the two universes resulting in various fights, miraculously without fatalities.

The story mode could have benefitted from tag team fighting at times, most notably Lex Luthor's fight with MK's mascots. It was pretty stupid for Scorpion to wait for Lex to beat Sub-Zero before getting involved (but not that surprising imo, given Scorpion's "intelligence"). Catwoman could have fought alongside Lex, but I admit it was amusing to have Lex single handedly defeat both flagship characters.

Like I said, the first game missed so many opportunities. But I still liked it.

I really dont know about starting anew with the series. I do think maybe a continuation of some of the events seen in the endings.

Quan Chi + Lex Luthor alliance
Darkseid + Shang Tsung
Shao Kahn + an army of Kryptonian criminals

I mean, the roster would be much bigger as well getting rid of the whole bizzaro "TEH RARGE!" fights as well.

Definetly look at it as: Justice League, Injustice League, Warriors of Light and Warriors of Dark.

If I was doing the roster - lets just say as close as possible to doubling it. Adding nemisies for everyone.
Eg: Cheetah or Circe for Wonder Woman, Mileena for Kitana.

Stages - drop all 50/50 ones. But keep a lot of them though.

As long as they loose the heroes and invite every loon from Arkham...

Clean tights like Green Lantern and Superman don't work in a MK game. The Scarecrow and Killer Croc do though.

Here's one suggestion for a new addition to the roster: Bizarro.

His controls should be different from the other characters'. Using the PS3 controller as an example, the control pad becomes the attack buttons, while the attack buttons are used for Bizarro's movements (triangle to jump, X to crouch, and so on).

When he wins, the announcer says "Bizarro loses". His finishers would be referred to as "Mercy" if they're fatalities, and Unheroic if they're heroic brutalities. If Hara Kiris made a return, the announcer would say "Bizarro lives" after Bizarro kills himself. When you lose as Bizarro in single player, you should remember Bizarro's logic when asked if you want to continue.

To conclude this post, I believe Superman should be given his own kind of finisher: Superdickery. Like MK9's babalities, they'd differ depending on who Superman beats.

I'd rather have a Marvel vs DC, with like 30 Characters on each side with MvC2 Gameplay and MvC3 Graphics. I'd buy that in a heart beat.

If a second MKVDCU game was made, would anyone be opposed to guest characters, as in, non-MK/DC characters? I've got some suggestions, such as Freddy, which I've already mentioned earlier in this thread, James Bond, and maybe Marvel characters such as Spider-Man or Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider's penance stare could be an heroic brutality (such an amusing name for non-lethal finishers). Freddy has a lot of non-gory kills from the ANOES movies that could work in a T-rated game, if it was rated T again. Bond could have none other than his movies' classic intro as a fatality, with the blood's color varying depending on the opponent (black for Noob Saibot, green for Reptile, orange for Blaze etc.).

If the game came out for the Wii, or the Wii U, it could have Nintendo characters as exclusives, such as characters from the LOZ (Legend of Zelda), F-Zero or Metroid series. The last two Super Smash Bros games were rated T, like MKVDCU, and LOZ: Ocarina of time even had blood.

Guest characters in a crossover? Blimey.

It does depend if they will try a new artstyle with the game rather than quasi-realistic.

But Deadpool. Always Deadpool.

Wouldn't mind a MK vs Soul Calibur though. Or a few SC characters.

If it is made by another studio and does not affect the development of the next MK tittle, then i don't mind, they can do as many secuels as they want. But i wouldnt like if it means i'll have to wait more for a real MK game.

Yeah, speaking of Soul Calibur, I'd especially love to have some of it's female characters, such as Ivy and Tira as guests in a MK game or a MKVDCU sequel. As for male SC characters, Astaroth and Voldo would be among my most wanted. But since SC has a lot of great characters, a MK/SC crossover as you've suggested would certainly be ideal. The same can be said for other series like Killer Instinct, Clay Fighter (Yes, Clay Fighter) or Street Fighter. Too many great characters to choose from to have only a few as guests.

While any guests I'd suggest would work for a solo MK game, seeing as a MKVDCU sequel would likely be rated T again, we'd be more likely to see characters such as Crypto from the Destroy All Humans series or Captain Falcon from the F-Zero games appear in it as guests. Even Steet Fighter characters.

Having brought up Captain Falcon, I just have to make this suggestion for his intro (which all characters should have, unlike the first game): Captain Falcon arrives in his Blue Falcon (his vehicle), gets out of it, and the vehicle leaves the area afterward. He turns at his opponent, and says "Show me your moves!".

To conclude this post, an "heroic brutality" for the Joker: In homage to one of the Joker's greatest impacts in comics, Joker shoots his victims in the spine, paralysing them from the waist down, but doesn't kill them. The announcer would say "Heroic brutality" in a tone of utter disbelief, such as "...Heroic...brutality?!" or "Heroic Brutality?!". This finisher would be the Joker parodying the heroes.

I dunno if I'd call it "inevitable." This MK game did so well, there's no reason for WB to think that MKvsDC2 would do a whole lot better.

Also, outside of the recent phenomenal Batman movies, most other DC characters' movies as of late (Green Lantern, Superman) haven't exactly faired well critically or financially. At this point, a new Vs game would probably benefit DC more than MK.

Still though, I think that the big knock against the first game was more or less the fact that MK fans wanted the new MK game that Ed had first talked about. I'll be completely honest, I begrudging bought MKvsDC when it came out and I actually loved the gameplay. Much more so than the previous few games.

So I wouldn't object to seeing a new MKvsDC game, just not for the next MK game. Keep the momentum going from this recent MK.

On a side note, I know that it's probably 10 years too late (at least), but am I the only one that would LOVE to see Mortal Kombat Vs Killer Instinct?

B. Orchid Vs Sonya
Sabrewulf Vs Baraka
Glacius Vs Sub Zero
Riptor Vs. Reptile
Kim Wu Vs Raiden
Gargos Vs Shao Khan
Eydol Vs Goro
Jago Vs Liu Kang
Fulgore Vs Sektor
Chief Thunder Vs Nightwolf
Maya Vs Kitana
TJ Combo Vs Jax
Spinal Vs Shang Tsung
Tusk Vs Kabal
Cinder Vs Scorpion

Maybe see if there were any concept characters for KI, KI2 or KI3 if it ever went in to development add them to the game along with characters like Kitana, Kung Lao, Sareena etc.

I dunno, I'd buy it.

I can really see a lot of parity between Soulcalibur and Mortal Kombat. I do genuinely think the two would bounce off each other nicely.

In more ways than one.

hurr.

Plus come on Nightmare Vs Shang Tsung. Cervantes Vs Scorpion. Tira Vs Mileena.

Also I think what would have been a good Joker fatality, if he walks up to the beaten opponent, shakes his hand and the announcer says "Friendship?" We then turn to the opponent as the skin goes pale, hair goes green, face tightens into a smile as he/she collapses to their knees. We go back to the Joker, shrugging his shoulders revealing a pair of thumb tacks strapped to the palms as the announcer says "Fatality"

I liked MK vs DC, so yeah. DC just needs to grow some balls like Nintendo and let them have the M rating. It doesn't even have to be that gory.
