With how 2011 came out with character themes, would any one want to see that come back? I still listen to majority of them because they were good tracks. I was wondering if anyone wanted to see this come back.

If there's less hip-hop and it sounds closer to the OST's from the films, then most definitely yes!

Reptile vs Liu Kang was the BEST on the 1995 OST. (By GZR, I think).

Yeah most of the music was good on the other game. I enjoy the music of the characters or even stages of the game it makes it fun and interesting for me. Yes I hope it happens again.glasses

As long as the theme is actually a theme resembling the characters this time, and not a music track with the character name slapped on it.

There was only one track that even came close to being "hip hop" on there. Your lacking perception of musical styles disturbs me.

I'd like that. I'd also like to be one of the people making the damn music. Maybe I should hook up a theme for one of the new characters and show it to NRS?

I completely forgot about those. :P
It would be cool if every character got a soundtrack this time though.

Pretty much this.

The music should fit the character. Kung Lao's theme had literally nothing in common with KL. I like the track but that AIN'T Kung Lao's theme.

As has already been said, most of the 2011 OST was wub wub garbage with a character name haphazardly slapped on to it. I think only Mileena's theme actually fit the character it was meant to correspond to.

The 2011 OST was the first soundtrack I completely skipped over.

I'm a child of the 80's-90's. I can't get down with what the kids are into these days, that whole album sounded like trash to me. And yes, few of the tracks represented the characters in the least.

I never thought I'd say it, but I really do enjoy the cheesy 90's Lords of Acid album more - not just for unintentional hilarity, but musically as well, heh.

They did a soundtrack for Injustice as well and the fact that they had Wiz do a song for MKX makes me think we're getting a soundtrack for it too.

Personally I loved most of the album for MK9. Hopefully they give all the characters a track this time!

Mileena's MK9 soundtrack is still on my ipod. It's just so sexy!

*shrug*

Your opinion, bro. smile

I found most of the 2011 soundtrack way too "hipster" and, well, hip-hop to be enjoyable. None of the themes really got me in the mood for MK, nor did they evoke in my mind the fighters they were supposedly styled after. It lacked the feel of the 1995 OST, with the likes of GZR and Fear Factory. I know the album can't be grimdarkomg with every song, nor should it just be an attempt to simulate the musical styles of the 90's.

Just sayin', it wasn't my cup of tea. I mean, I thought even the MK Annihilation OST was better than 2011's, and MK Annihilation's OST was ass (imo).

I don't mind hip-hop or dubstep as genres...but the 2011 CD was garbage because character themes should be ABOUT the character.

Y'know why the Immortals CD worked so well? Y'know why Chinese Ninja Warrior is STILL the best MK-related piece of music of ALL-TIME?

LYRICS. Lyrics ABOUT the character.
I know it's cheesy but embracing cheese is what makes things fun, so somebody, please, just...DO that.
It can't be that hard. Check this one out, it's about Reptile...by which I mean the guy is actually singing ABOUT Reptile and making references to the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5RGCFToYis

We were introduced to one another in a toxic environment.

If you stick around, you'll get used to that happening more often.

Are you saying that this kind of song should be Reptile's theme song? Like for real? Coz there's nothing in the music that says MK at all.
If you're just saying that the lyrics should be about the character like in this one, then I agree. Otherwise that song is just terrible imo

I would love to see character theme songs return, but from the few that I listened from MK 2011, I was not pleased. The one for Sub-Zero was especially awful. If only someone like Mick Gordon did the character themes, we'd get something great.

That is what I'm saying, yes. Obviously, THIS particular band is of a specific genre that doesn't necessarily fit the mood of the games...but as an example of LYRICS, it's good.

I don't think the songs need lyrics to be about the character. You can do that sounds alone, Liu Kang's theme and Mileena's theme for example, did just that.

While some fit more than others, It was still interesting to hear these music artist's interpretation of the characters. It's a fun project and it's not like these were played in the game anyways (I would have loved the option however).

Well I'd disagree with that, I don't think even one single track on the 2011 album worked for the character...

But the sentiment is fair, you CAN capture a character's personality with instrumentals alone. It's just easier with lyrics.

What I'd actually like them to do is what the XBone Killer Instinct game's soundtrack does.
Y'know, a character like Liu Kang, his music should sound Chinese, either something ancient, or with maybe a little 70's "wokka-chicka wokka-chicka Ba-Dummm-BUMP" funk mixed in like the Enter the Dragon title theme, or the original MK1 soundtrack. And you might want some monk-like chanting in there like Jago's theme has. Dubstep is not the appropriate genre for this guy no matter what sounds you stick in between the wubs and buzzes and bass drops. If you want some kind of hip electronic club music, save it for Sektor or Cyrax.

You have to consider the genre tho...It was an electronic album. Liu Kang's theme was a perfect electronic take on the character. Just like the 90's soundtrack was dance themed songs for the characters...

Plus, Liu's not living in ancient times, a more modern sound works.

I'm sayin' that's what they did wrong. The album's CONCEPT was a mistake.

I mean, the Immortals album was all techno, but techno has more range to it, you can do a techno song that sounds a little Chinese for Liu, you can do a techno song that sounds horror-ish for Goro, they had one that sounded like a pop song for the girl character, you can do Techno-rock, you can do techno that's all beeps and boops if for some reason that's what you want...Dubstep doesn't have the range, and in this day and age, it makes more sense to make a VARIETY album anyway.

Why not? That's like saying it's a mistake to draw Liu Kang in a Cubism style. If it's released just for fun and isn't included in the game there's no harm.

Plus Liu Kang's theme has many more instruments than buzzing sounds...and think you are wrong about electronic music having no range. I get modern monk from it.
