So basically if we see any characters returning I'd say it should be two of them... and they should be unlockable (reasoning why included:)
Basically here's my idea for a backstory to Mortal Kombat 8 which could be called "The New Era"
As Armageddon fell and the warriors rushed to the Pyramid, many things took place. Taven found Blaze and as he went to strike the fatal blow, Shao Kahn's hammer, Sub Zero's blade, Scorpion's spear, and so many others hit the creature at once. A large blast levelled everything in sight. Shao Kahn's power rose, and when he saw Goro standing tall as well, they had an epic clash, and the Shokans did battle with Kahn and the Tatarktan warriors. Scorpion reunited with his family only to have Quan Chi kidnap his son, and Scorpion dove in to the Netherrealm. Sub Zero found himself hunted by the gods, particularly Raiden. In the chase, Fujin - who could sympathize with Sub Zero - tried to stop Raiden, only to be slain. The Corrupt Thunder God found Sub Zero and just as Sub Zero was about to be killed, Liu Kang - restored - fought with Raiden. And indeed Raiden was destroyed and Kang was made Protector of Earth Realm, and he was reunited with Kitana, whom made fast allies with the Shokans. Motaro was also restored, and in time, the great races of Takatans, Shokans, Centaurs, and Reptile's Zattar(spelling?) race did battle. Noob Saibot found Sub Zero and the younger brother put his older brother to rest. Every kombatant did their great battles, when only....
...Scorpion, Sub Zero, Liu Kang, Kitana, and Quan Chi remained alive.
Liu Kang became a God, taking Raiden/Fujin's place. Kitana also ascended as Queen of Edenia, and married Liu Kang. Quan Chi and Scorpion did eternal battle of cat and mouse throughout the Nether realm, only for Scorpion to gain his revenge, slaying Quan Chi... or so it seemed. Scorpion found himself trapped in the Nether Realm once more. Sub Zero remained hidden from the Elder Gods....
...generations go by. A new Mortal Kombat is to be held, but this time, it is back to basics. No longer is it a battle for the survival of the Realms, but an old fashioned contest to see which realm is better. With Edenia under Kitana's command, and the Zatarrans and Shokans coexisting in Outworld as leaders, and the various dimensions sticking to themselves, it was no longer about world domination. Kitana set the stage for the next Mortal Kombat, and while the fights were to the death, it was a matter of pride and not world domination.

- One Cyborg, a voluntary Lin Kei(grr spelling, too tired lol) test subject
- One Sorceror, hellbent on knowing he is the best
- Two Rival Gang Members of the Black and Red Dragon Clans
- One Zatarran Assassin
... prepare for Kombat, Kitana is secretly overthrown - captured but not killed - Quan Chi seizes the reigns. After his hellish time with Scorpion he realizes the after effects of the Armageddon have changed him. He is stronger, faster, bigger. He is a monster, and he will try to conquer the realms. Little do the Kombatants know... the rules have changed.
Gameplay Ideas:
Scorpion would be unlockable by fighting in the Netherrealm, while it would obviously have the 1 on 1 fights, it would be very very very interactive times ten of what we see now. No longer would people walking back be backing up, and no longer would you be restricted. One would need to activate a deathtrap to free Scorpion.
Sub Zero too would need to be found....
Fatalities and Friendships would return
...so on and so forth. Any thoughts on this idea?
