I honestly don't know. They had a perfect opportunity to do it in this game but they dropped the ball. I know some people hate the idea of people being resurrected, but I feel like mk is one of the series that can get away with that. Not to say no one should ever stay dead. But the Sindel massacre scene was one of the few issues I had with mk9's story and that scene needs to be redeemed.

I don't really want them all back but after seeing some of the endings I think Kung Lao may come back and I hope smoke will too. After seeing his and sub zeros bromance really flourish in MK9 I was a bit dissapointed to see no mention of it MKX. I am hoping for a bit of a side story in the next game where Kung Jin and Sub Zero team up and travel to the netherrealm to save and restore Kung Lao and Smoke but we shall see.

^Yet another reason I'm not too big on the time jump. Even if they do resurrect in the next game, after so many years they won't be the same. Although that might be a good thing depending on what they do with it. I guess we'll see.

I definitely think Sindel, Jade and Kabal should be restored. Smoke can stay evil.

I think the revenants should stay out of the next game.

Game needs to evolve.. can't keep telling the same story. We had 9 new characters this game. Would love to see another 8 or 9 next game with more of the Klassic characters moving out.

If you want to play as Kitana, Liu Kang, etc. Play MK9, or MKX, or any one of the previous 10 games.

It doesn't have to be the same story, but to just toss those characters away the way they did in mk9 it sucks. Playing the old games won't bring me that much satisfaction because mk 1-4 didn't have a real story mode and the others were too focused on the main characters like Shujinko and Taven. Dispite the fact that the trilogy characters have been around for about 20 years, there is still so much more that can be done with these characters that we never even got to see attempted in the old games.

That's not to say I dont want to see new or 3d characters get spotlight.

No, I want Liu Kang and Kitana to return as the rulers of the netherrealm.

I liked that they let their deaths have a impact on their characters, instead of bringing them back to normal as if nothing happened. In short, their deaths might lead to character development.

I personally wouldn't mind Kabal getting restored with Stryker remaining a Revenant and Kabal trying to free him. It'd be more original for Stryker to remain the corrupted one.

I'm not saying they should remain Revenants forever, but that NRS should run with it just for a few more games.

Besides, people still got to play as the live selves of Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana, and there's no reason the live selves couldn't be playable again, even if they aren't canon.

I'm better off if Noob Saibot returned next game to claim the throne at last. Liu & Kitana can't remain rulers forever.

so just abandon the big setup of mkx's ending with raiden/earthrealm vs Liu Kang & the revenants and maybe kotal Kahns krew. That sounds like the "evolution" you are looking for, maybe you should just look at the what the story had to say instead of the usual "fan" rhetoric of this sucks they should do it this way, when that is what their doing

I definitely think they should stay revenants. Just get rid of the stupid glowing lines. I personally think it was weird having them have alive, "aged" versions of themselves. I hope they get rid of that aspect.

The "aged" variants were probably a combination of fan service and an attempt to conceal their actual in-game fate. Up until release, everyone thought "oh, so everyone who died comes back to life" when actually, only Sub-Zero, Jax and Scorpion were resurrected. The fact that Liu, Kitana and Kung Lao remained dead was surprising to most.

Just like Sub-Zero's default outfit - he never actually wears it once during all of story mode. it was only included as fan service to tie him to his classic ninja look.

Maybe all the revenants will come back game after game after game.

Sub-Zero & Jax were brought back.

- Kabal/Stryker: Either Kabal comes back and with Mavado now gone, he'll think about overthrowing Kano and reform the Black Dragon. Or if Stryker, he'll be trying to get out of the "defender" business by feeling drunk or suicidal. But the young ones will get Stryker out of that phase.

This is a thought provoking post. I agree with almost all of it. I have mixed feelings about the whole rulers of the Netherrealm thing, but staying revenats for another game or two might not be so bad if they get some good writers on their team. I just wish guys like Smoke and Jade were not so non existent.

I could see Kung Lao, Kitana, Smoke, and Nightwolf coming back to life. Jade's absence may indicate she was already restored before all the others and may have been hiding which will be explored in MK11. That's my hopeful speculation.

How will they come back? Um...magic the same way anything can be reversed in MK. Also...okay seriously people am I the only one who remembers what happens to bad people when they die in MK? What spirit realm do they go to? Yeah, the Netherrealm.

Scorpion’s dumb ass did nothing because Quan Chi isn’t dead. He’s right back home because of him possibly fully rejuvenated too. I just...what the hell writers(Vogel)...

Okay I won’t rant. I think some characters should stay as undead puppets of Quan Chi's evil(puppets of Quan Chi god I hate this revenant cop out crap!). Like Kitana because...well they made her pretty unlikable in my eyes with this game. So yeah just go all out and have her stay evil.

Would suit her new detestable arrogant persona juuuust fine.

I think it would also do Kabal well to remain a revenant because...*shrugs* I don't know what else you could do with the guy. I think he is just better off being an evil hellbound soul.

Sindel should also remain a revenant as well because, that girl got confusing after Shao Kahn was defeated in the original timeline. After he was beaten she was released from whatever hold he had over her...but was she still undead or magical in some way because she still maintained her undead appearance after.

I just think there are a lot of cool things that could be done with her if she remained an undead villain design wise. You could go nuts visually with some of her abilities.
And no, Bi-Han should never be Bi-Han again. That is stupid. There is only Noob Saibot now. You don’t see people demanding a graphic novel about Peter Parker before he became Spider-Man do you?

The final scene, while unsatisfying in that it failed to explain much beforehand, served its purpose to hint at the future direction. Even though Raiden is corrupted and Liu & Kitty are (un)dead, they look like they will still be major players in the next instalment.

Having all the revenants in this game (minus Jade and maybe one more i can't remember) was good to explain what happened to them. The weird thing is having some with both "dead" and "alive" models - not just costumes but also personal voice interactions in battle - but Kitty , Liu K, and Kung L along with the NPCs never got revived. Playing with the audience's expectations - sure, go ahead, but after knowing what happens in the story the incongruity makes no sense.

Should they all come back? Maybe, but not immediately. Let's see where this new direction goes first. Besides, the history of MK is littered with characters that have fallen by the wayside and it would be better to give some of them more face-time like Fujin, Li Mei, Bo' Rai Cho etc, and that requires sacrificing moveslots from other older 'staple' characters like Smoke & Kabal.

Hopefully they will return, but I don't think they would stay dead for long

Noob is cool, but I don't see what is so stupid about giving him a different story if they decide to. The Peter Parker thing is not a good comparason imo. Peter Parker is defined by Spider Man and vice versa. He has always been Spider Man a vital part of the Marvel Community for 50 years. Bi-Han started as Sub then turned into Noob, then he did nothing after that..Plus Peter Parker has no cool powers without the spider bite. Bi-Han always had some kinda power to fight with.

Honestly I hope Smoke stays Revenant/Enenra. I feel like it could be an interesting route for his character.

They'll be back, in some way, shape, or form.

I mean, outside of Tanya and Rain, the entire Edenian line has almost been wiped out... SOMEBODY has to fight for Edenia, and it's certainly not going to be Tanya or Rain. With Kitana doing her best dark empress cosplay and Sindel... I don't know, cougar-hunting with Stryker?... Jade is my likely candidate for the next revival, and it also pits her with the task of saving and/or redeeming her fallen best friend. Easy character motivation and character development.

Same with Smoke. I wouldn't be surprised if Sub-Zero went after him. Or perhaps he'll bump elbows with Noob Saibot next game.

And we already know that Kung Jin isn't exactly going to sit around while his cousin chops people up. He wants his legacy and family restored.

... Liu Kang can stay as an incompetent leader of hell though. For some reason, that amuses me greatly ever since Jason's ending...
