(Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place, but I thought this is where it should go. Administration Team Members, you are free to move this to wherever it is you see fit.)

According to Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is going to be the last MK of this generation. This leads me to believe that after this, the current cast of characters is going to be retired and most likely used as hidden characters (if even that) in future MK endeavors. This has led me to question the following: what do you think the next MK game after MKA is going to be like?

Personally, I think they're going to keep the Kreate-A-Kombatant they are introducing for MKA and upgrade it a little, but I think they will actually keep Fujin around and use him as they are using Rayden now (that is more of a leader, the wise-and-powerful guy who doesn't really fight that much because he's secretly a pretty pathetic character) and introducing a bunch of new characters. One such example includes a new sort of Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot and Scorpion blood fued. I also think that it's possible we'll see the sons/daughters/descendants of the current roster (especially a Kung Lao descendant, since Liu Kang can't exactly pass the seeds down because of that whole "being dead" thing he's had going on since MK:DA and because it's time for Kung Lao to stop being the MK answer to Luigi) and maybe keep Kabal, Kira and Kobra around since (it's rumored) he consumed the Dragon King's Heart and gained Onaga's power to resurrect the dead. However, no Tarkatan or Kamidogu guys like Baraka, Hotaru or those guys.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Good thread man!

As far as I can guess, there are certain characters that Ed Boon simply won't get rid of, as they've become symbols of this series. But the MK team will find ways to bring them back that are different.

Scorpion: He's the one guy I can really see coming back in his original MK1-MK6 form. He's one of the big symbols and he's eternal basically. Plus he's Ed's favorite character.

Kung Lao: I agree with you on the right way to portray Kung Lao. He should no longer be in Liu Kang's shadow, but this shouldn't be the Kung Lao we've seen in the last several games, but perhaps his son.

Sub-Zero: I could very easily see this Sub-Zero as another Lin Kuei member who takes the last Sub-Zero's place.

I also think we're going to see a few character types return, but this one is the most obvious:

Special Forces: It won't be Sonya or Jax, but a new SF character.

After that, it's all pretty much new I think. Maybe we'll see a vampire or another shaolin monk type that's not Kung Lao, but if they want to do this right, I think they'll ditch alot of the old ideas that have become stale or simply worn with age. So no more Black Dragon/Red Dragon, no more 18 ninjas to a game, no more Shokans etc.

They need to try hard and come up with some new memorable characters that can become fixtures in the series going forward.

After MKA....nothing we go back to our normal boring lives until an MK game appears on the PS3......wait, whats that? you were talking about the story?? oh..well guess we will have to wait and see.

but seriously I think they will present a completly new story and the chars from the previous game should not be given big roles to avoid stealing the spot-light from the new guys.
