In the past we were able to turn off blood and other things in the options. I was thinking, if NRS had implemented an option to turn off variations and just use normal move-sets.

You would still have to select the variation of the character you want to be, but, it would not be in play during the initial match(es). You would just be using the normal move-set for that character.

Would you be ok with it, if they had added this in the option menu?

I'd be OK with it. But doubt it'll happen.

As an option, sure.

Though I'm not sure why you'd want to play the game without the variations, its the most interesting thing about the game right now.

I remember hearing in a interview Boon and co were debating doing this so the "real pro players could show off" or something like that. I think they referred to it as "the bare bones version" or something like that? For the life of me I can't remember which interview tho so I guess take this with a grain a salt. Who knows if it'll make the final build tho. Personally I don't see myself using it so I don't care, but if the variations become just a massive counter pick fest I could understand its inclusion.

I think it would be really boring to play with so few special moves per character :/

The variation system is for sure the most interesting thing so far, I agree. Not really saying that anyone would have to, but, if it was there for some who would want to play the old school way.

I too heard that, I think its like a 4th variation for every character that just makes them playable without variations.

I think that would defeat all the work NRS have put into creating, implementing, and balancing the Variations mechanic, the primary mechanic of the entire game. I can't imagine them wanting to negate that.

It seems people went slightly insane from the lack of new inforation and ready to create some really inane and strange topics.

Why the fuck NRS will design ability to turn of variations, when it is a core mechanic of the new game?

And besides, what purpose such ridiculuous thing will serve, huh?
Merge all variations into one, effectively creating another variation?
Or just leave only variation? But what stopping you from choosing the same variation on the select screen over and over? It will be the same. Turning off variations is meaningless and stupid. Basically the whole gameplay designed around them. You don't like them? Choose only variation and play with it. Nobody forces you to choose others.

Next thing, somebody will create topic about "how it would be awesome if NRS added ability for characters to fly" or "how about creating to petition to design ability to turn off titles screen". Why? Just because. furious

Get your head out of your ASS! It was just a thought and wasn't saying it will happen. Just something simple to talk about while waiting for MKX since info is coming slowly.

Why you gotta take it seriously???

Because there is plenty of stuff to talk seriously about without resorting to creating inane topics like this one.

I also remember hearing about the "bare bones" option, but I cant remember what interview it was in either. I know for a fact I heard that in one of them though.

I'd prefer they have a all in one mode where you have all 3 variations in one.

I'm not a fan of the variations. They are great for the tournament player but most casuals will pick the one they like and stick with it. furious

The Variations are one of the core elements of this game, so I severely doubt it can be turned off.

Except this time it is a valid concern, as Ed Boon mentioned they are considering a bare bones variation. I don't know if you didn't read the comments, or just choose to ignore that fact.

http://shoryuken.com/2014/08/20/netherrealm-studios-considering-barebones-fourth-variation-for-mortal-kombat-x-cast/

Personally, I wouldn't mind. As he said, it would just be to show off, but it's certainly not something that takes priority.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how that is something bad. Not trying to argue, but I am curios, could you further elaborate on that?

I haven't heard about and I think its pointless. If you don't like variations, than stick to the one of them and that's it. How they can remove variations from the game without affecting gameplay...is just baffling to say the least.

People just look for something to complain about.

I get what you mean, but from what Boon said it seem it would work by giving you a "fourth" variation that doesn't have any of the extra moves the variations give. For example, Scorpion would only have his spear and teleport, which are the only moves he shares among all other 3 variations. It would only be to show off, to say "I'm so good I don't need anything extra to beat you"

It would be a nice addition, but I really don't care if we get that or not, it wouldn't alter my experience with the game very much.

I am not sure if such thing deserves its own option. Maybe some sort of secret code or something.

If the "pre-battle 3 digit symbol code thing" is still around this time I could see it working there. Each player is stripped of variation assets.

Much like "slo-mo kombat" or "rainbow blood kombat" ya know?
