I've been thinking about what we know about MKX's story far... and something occurred to me. A big plot point obviously is that some of the characters from MK9 who died, are saved from the NetherRealm and are alive once again. We aren't sure how or why it happens yet, but we know it does.

This is where I think NRS missed out on a potentially cool opportunity. If Raiden is able to save deceased characters from the last game... why not bring back Earth Realm Warriors from the past? Why Stop there? There have been hundred's of Mortal Kombat Tournaments, and before MK1 obviously all of Earth Realm's warriors were killed.

This literally would have opened the door for interesting character types..

-A Real Samurai
-A Pirate
-A Knight
-An Arabian Character
-Mayan/Incan Characters
-Viking

These are just a few typical character types, but you get the point. I'm sure you guys have a lot of other interesting ideas.. It would have been cool to get a glimpse at other fallen warriors since really all we have heard about is the Original Kung Lao. It would have been another interesting way to get new characters without there having to a ton of sons, daughters, cousins that just HAPPEN to be around the exact same age..

Any way, what do you think? Edit- this wasn't meant to come across as a bitching thread. I Love what I'm seeing so far. This game looks amazing and I like the story.

I don't think I would consider it a missed opportunity, but I do agree that some of those character types you mentioned would be cool. I was thinking a real samurai like with the face mask and everything, but we are getting a samurai pack so I guess that kind of counts lol

Maybe something less stereotypical, but I see tour point.

I just wanted to add time travel hasn't actually happened yet, at least physically, it were mostly fragmented premonitions sent from Raiden's future self.

Mace the Dark Age? If not, there's always Soul Calibur.

-A Real Samurai: Yes. Mitsurugi is more of a Ronin though.
-A Pirate: No. Cervantes
-A Knight: Sort of. Siegfried in SC
-An Arabian Character: A male and female. Not in SC
-Mayan/Incan Characters: Kotal Kahn, but he's more Aztec
-Viking: Yes, but not in SC.

I always thought MK could use an angel now that we're seeing other mythologies rather than Asian myth represented through Kotal Kahn

Well actually some characters that you mentioned sound cool, but like a developer you got to understand that you can ́t just put whatever you want in the game and not only develop the character, but also his story.

In a 25 five years story you could think... Its more than enought to develop more characters, but actually is just one game with a main focus and a bunch of things to cover in a time limit. So when you put a lot of beloved characters like Smoke, Rain, Sindel, Kabal, Fujin, just like cameos (even if they are DLC) that gives you an idea of how complex and how much time is needed to develop a character properly. So i don ́t think its a wasted oportunity, i think they are doing the best transition posible from one game to another.

It would be better if we get mor characters??? Of course.
But now i preffer Quality over Quantity

I wasn't suggesting we needed more, I was really just saying it was an opportunity to explore Mortal Kombat's past. As well as introduce different character types.. Instead of Kenshi 2.0 or Sonya/Johnny 2.0 or Jax. 2.0

Yes i understand, but is easier to develop the Story and relatinships betwen the main characters and their offsprings rather than complete new characters.

Thats what make me think that maybe characters like erron black, D ́vorah and Ferra/Torr maybe won't have such a good development as the rest of the characters during the story mode.
Of course I hope they do.

Oh I see what you are saying. I agree.

I think NRS benefits from being part of WB now because the DC comic tye-ins really help fill in story development/gaps.

Maybe i just like to keep things in the original setting. Kinda feels weird to add chars just bc they are different or not used before. Not saying they all should look ninja, wizard or shaolin. But pirate, knight or viking idk, atleast make it fit in the realms of mk.

I see what you are saying.. But if you look back in history... What kind of champions do you think represented Earth? It wouldn't have just been Shaolin Monks. Raiden, as earth realms protector would have picked the best warriors wherever he could find them.

And I'm absolutely not saying this to start an argument.. But when you say "fits in the Realms" of Mortal Kombat... I have to say, nothing is the same as the original where all the warriors where human or human-esque god (other than Goro) MK2 introduced Baraka as a Tarkatan.. MK3 we got Robots and a Centaur, as well as a Native American and a Cop... with MK4-Deception we got Demons, Chaos Cleriks, and a Vampire.. MKX we have a Hulking Tor, and a Bug Lady..

Its safe to say MK has expanded in every game the types of warriors we have seen. Surely if you can accept a bat-looking vampire lady from another realm, you can accept a Knight. Atleast its an actual type of warrior that existed in history.

to me Dvora, Kotal Kahn and Takeda are the best new characters

Erron black seems cool but he does not look like he fits MK

kung jing is a copy of green arrow

jaqui looks like is going to be a female jax- a female that represents physical strength. her moves are probably going to cause less damage but she probably will have quicker moves. like sheeva and Goro

the problem i have with Jaqui is her outlook, she doesn't seem exciting or interesting. and that her father will be in as well.

which brings me to what I hate the most about MKX

there more family members than anything else

Cassie
sonya
Johnny

Jaqui
Jax

Kung Loa
Kung Jin
Lui kang- if there rumours are true which is very likely

Kenshi
Takeda

thats 10 characters

Sindel and Mileena was enough in my opinion

have a good night everyone

I don't think that whatever plot device is used to bring back some MK9 characters can really be used to bring absolutely anyone back from the dead. Quan Chi basically owns the souls of all of Raiden's warriors because of the deal the two of them made. I'm not sure how characters like Sindel work.

Regardless, the implication is that a handful of souls were freed from Quan Chi and returned to life. Only those souls that Quan Chi won seem to be on the table, so to speak.

Didn't Raiden offer the souls to Quan Chi as part of a deal, but then Quan Chi said that he didn't have to make a deal because the souls were already his?

I think this is a fantastic perspective and idea. I don't mind at all what they've done with this game, and it's fun to see the future of MK fighters.

But wow could they ever flesh out the history by looking in that direction. Ancient Edenian heroes etc, would be very interesting (although I guess they all have pretty crazy lifespans).
