25 years is not that long...

Besides the Earthrealm characters, I really don't see too many of the characters aging that much. I mean, the majority of the survivors from MK9 are Outworlders, Edenians, monsters, cyborgs etc. Kitana is well over 10,000 years old for example, yet she looks mid-twenties.

On a side note, honestly, I originally wanted something JUST like this. A dark, brutal, future setting with 2-3 original characters and maybe some "descendants" of the classic characters, such as Sonya/Johnny's daughter, thrown in with a bunch of new characters. However, now the waiting game is SO much more intense because I can't even guess the upcoming characters...

Yes it is, this kills/retires most if not all of the earthrealmers... and the fans of the earth warriors are fucked. I don't want to play as SOnya's daughter, i want to play as Sonya

In a relative viewpoint, no, but a lot can happen in 25 years.

25 years is one generation. Obviously the game will start with Cage, Raiden, Sonya, etc. and finish the story with the next generation of EarthRealm fighters

Precisely. I do hope MKX focuses on the progression through those years rather than taking a hiatus and jumping to show how much things changed.

I still think there's room for classic characters to show up as their young selves--just early on in the story. Character variations, which includes cosmetic changes, could easily handle old and young versions of the same character. (Consider Shang Tsung in MK9.)

I like to think that Cage and Sonya are around 30 in MK9.

Here's to them being playable at 55 in MKX!

I hate this attitude so much. That's completely stupid. While I'm fine with jumping forward like this, I can understand upset fans. People should not just go play MK9. Obviously NRS should want to keep a good portion of their fanbase and avoiding the questions about older characters kinda sucks because they may not see them again for four damn years if they aren't in this game. So, lighten up!

Directhit, I understand your frustration. Don't give up on MK just yet. I don't know if Sonya and Johnny will make it, but keep an open mind about Cassie. She may be a badass character yet.

By the time it launches it'll only be like 2 years in our future. We know Deadly Alliance was 10 years after MK1 and DA is 12 years old (13 by release) so the time jump makes some sense to get it back to modern times. Which is where we would be if it wasn't for cross overs, Injustice and poorly told reboots. (I just wish we would've just gone here after Armageddon but w/e)

I'm not skipping the game, i like what i've seen and since i do like Cassie, but it's so sad to think that MK9 may be Sonya's (and Johnny's) last playable appareance, since them both are my favorite characters, on the other hand, i really like the fact that they ended up being together. Cassie is the character i'll be playing the most out of all the announced ones actually.

It does suck, trust me I felt the same after cyber Sub-Zero.

I really don't think it's the very end of them though. Don't worry about that ;)

In the meantime, Cassie does look really badass IMO, and imagine the moves she can have mixing both Johnny and Sonya. God tier. Plus her own individual moves, yep my favorite newbie by far.
