That's true. Didn't consider that, actually.
Maybe it would be more interesting if Jade had actually persisted in catching Kitana, preventing her to convince Sindel to join her which would end up with Kahn winning... and then die because he broke the rules, like he did in the new timeline. Then Kitana and Jade would no longer be best of friends, because Jade betrayed Kitana's trust. However, they would probably both still be alive then.
Interesting twist, actually.

I'm for story twists, but that's one aspect I want kept forever. Jade's loyalty to Kitana and the royal family is the prime reason she's one of my favorite characters.
It could easily be because Jade wants to protect Kitana, if she really thinks it is the right thing to do. She's like an older sister to her, maybe she would think it was out of loyalty and responsibility to her best friend that Jade would capture Kitana, to keep her safe and out of harms way. Because she thinks that is what is best for her.
I am actually starting to like this idea. It would make for an interesting fanfiction, at least.
