Throughout the series pre-MK4, Kitana has been the link between the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness. Her betrayal of Shao Kahn was a critical point towards his defeat. Jade was handed the task of apprehending Kitana, her childhood friend. Her choice was the catalyst for the outcome of the MK3 era.
As I have stated before, had she chosen to capture Kitana, Shao Kahn would have most likely succeeded in his plans, as Kitana was the only member of the Forces of Light who knew the full extent of it, and her removal would be the loss of much needed information and tactics.
Due to this, Jade remains one of the biggest characters of the MK story.

Yes, in the new timeline. But what Riyakou refers to is in the old timeline.

That was an unfortunate outcome. That all happened because Raiden killed Motaro to save Johnny Cage. Sindel would take over Motaro's work and that got Shang Tsung killed. Then you know what happens in the Cathedral.

That's true. Didn't consider that, actually.
Maybe it would be more interesting if Jade had actually persisted in catching Kitana, preventing her to convince Sindel to join her which would end up with Kahn winning... and then die because he broke the rules, like he did in the new timeline. Then Kitana and Jade would no longer be best of friends, because Jade betrayed Kitana's trust. However, they would probably both still be alive then.
Interesting twist, actually.

I'd say that could be a reason, but it's an even number so it can still be tied on lol, anyhow I'm glad Jade is still winning; won't be mad if she don't though!

I never said that she was just a woman with a pole. Another user stated that he voted for because of her pole.
I was the one that said that, but I also said that there were several other reasons that were far more "valid" (even though that whole idea is solely in the eye of the beholder).
I've liked Jade since MK2 because I've always liked hidden characters, I remember how cool it was when I first saw her in the Living Forest, and then when I found out from someone in the arcade how to fight her, and how insane it was the first time I got to fight her with other people surrounding me at the arcade cabinet.
I loved how she played in UMK3, I like her story and the dilemma she had over where her loyalties were, I liked her moves and her combos in UMK3, MKD and MK2011. I always somehow feel like I'm playing as a special character when I use her (same goes for Smoke and Noob).
But I also like her for less "valid" things like how her outfits have changed and evolved over the years, I like that she's a bit of a trash talker, I like the retractable pole she uses, I like her little stripper spin around it when she wins in MK2011, I like her hair styles, that she comes from my favorite MK game, I like that she has the color green...
Honestly, there are a ton of reasons why I like and dislike every character, and I weigh them all differently in my mind. Though I mentioned her pole, I don't weigh the value of her weapon nearly as much as her story, the potential I see in her, and several other things.
Everyone has their own reasons for liking and disliking characters as well as the criteria and how they prioritize that criteria for what makes a character better or worse than another. At the end of the day, they're just opinions supported by opinions.

I voted Jade, and will continue to until she comes up against Sub-Zero.
Jade's my second favorite character in the series and I really don't see where all of the hate for her is coming from? I mean what's so bad about her that people have to accuse others of rigging the poll because she is winning. It's really ridiculous.
I agree with oracle. Everybody is calling out Jade for having fans, what about Smoke? His arse is no more relevant than Jade is storywise yet he has curbstomped his competition so far. I expected Cyrax to beat him but honestly Smoke is probably like the 5th or so most popular character in the series at this point apparently because he just ran over cyrax and sektor. WTH? So please stop crying about Jade's popularity until people can come up with an answer for why Smoke is so friggin popular because Jade is in the EXACT same boat as he is.

Then go send a private message to a moderator on this site to fix you. Complaining about it in this thread isn't really going to help you much... despite that I JUST sent you a link that helps you get a signature.
Anyways, back with the whole Jade situation, she plays an important part in this series, even if this is the new timeline and things are different. Her role and Kitana's role hasn't really changed, despite that their lives are both in an undead state.
It's really funny, however, to see people saying that, "Oh, I didn't think such character has a big fan base." Remember, people on this site doesn't make up for the entire fan base of one character. You still have other fan sites and people who don't even go on fan sites that are fans of a particular character. Not too many thought that Sheeva had a strong fan base. When she was getting shit faces by users here who had a problem with her ugliness in threads that were talking about ways to improve her, you saw a lot more Sheeva fans coming out and defending their favorite character all because they saw some random guy saying that she needs to sit out a few because no one wants to play as some ugly, unattractive female character.
Don't be surprised at how much of a fan base a character has... They're all huge in some manner... And I'm not intentionally trying to crack a sex joke in there if anyone is thinking that I am.

I could see her as more of a level headed Sonya too. I take her more seriously. I just see her as a very serious character for some reason. She's all about her business, IMO. Some people see her as very sassy and almost like a smarta**. I just don't see it though. MK9 may have tried to paint her that way, but that's not ever how I see her.
Hell, maybe the reason I like her is because I see her like a female Sub-Zero. Stern, serious, even reclusive maybe. Also some of the heroes thought maybe she couldn't be trusted at first but she grew on them. Anyway, I love Jade no matter if she's sassy or if she's serious. Cool character either way.
