Throughout the series pre-MK4, Kitana has been the link between the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness. Her betrayal of Shao Kahn was a critical point towards his defeat. Jade was handed the task of apprehending Kitana, her childhood friend. Her choice was the catalyst for the outcome of the MK3 era.

As I have stated before, had she chosen to capture Kitana, Shao Kahn would have most likely succeeded in his plans, as Kitana was the only member of the Forces of Light who knew the full extent of it, and her removal would be the loss of much needed information and tactics.

Due to this, Jade remains one of the biggest characters of the MK story.
