Rain
I was just thinking (after reading all these hatefull comments about Rain in the ninja topic) that Rain shouldn't be related to ANY ninja anymore.
Wouldn't it be good if Rain became NON ninja?
Just a edenian male wearing gold/silver/purple/black clothes with weather/water powers and NO relationship to ninja clothes at all.
He shouldn't have any mask on his face anymore, just his real face, and if he has a mask it must be explaned that he only wears this mask to protect his beautiful face.
I love razor's idea to make Rain much like vega in character... not looks of course, but personality, he's in love with himself and uses Kitana for sinister goals.
I love Rains character and I would love a male edenian character, but I hate the ninja thing...
Reptile shouldn't be dressed like a ninja aswel, I rather saw the non-ninja reptile in this game, I hope his alternate outfit will be non ninja.

I think the idea of Rain being a non-ninja is very good , it would be awesome to see how he would turn out. It would be good if there was at least on less ninja character and Reptile's alternate costume should be like the one his primary costume in Deadly Alliance

I hope rain is in a d i hope he covers his face.

Fist I'd like to say, we lack Edenian men! We only have Rain, not counting in Taven and Daegon since they probably won't appear as playable in the upcoming MK. And Rain should move away from the Classic MK Ninja look and appear more like an Edenian - and by that I don't mean put him in a leotard like Kitana. XD
I liked his Armageddon look, having a more regal assassin look to him. The purple with the golden edges was a cool look for him, and I loved his headpiece with the mask and his hair. The cape was a bit superhero/poncho-esque, but I wouldn't be against him wearing some kind of cape if done right.
I would want Rain to be more of an elemental warrior with storm powers. His control over the weather should be expanded and look a bit more epic than splashing water from his hands. Here's some of my ideas of how his moves could appear like...
Frozen Rain Orb - This move is from UMK3 where he shoots an orb of water at the opponent who then becomes paralyzed for a small period of time. I've always imagined that what Rain actually does is making his opponent wet with the orb and then controls the water that's splashed onto the opponent is kinda clenching onto him/her due to Rain's control of it which gives him an opportunity to attack. I'd like for it to return as something like that.
Water Blast - Rain's other projectile move which appeared in MKA. This move seemed so unfinished in the game. Rain shoots a jet of water on the opponent and if it hits, the opponent will stumble back a bit. However, if the water doesn't connect, it just vanishes like some glitch. I'd like for this move to look more lethal. Rain should shoot out a high pressure jet stream of water which hurls the opponent back as it connects, knocking him/her over.
Windy Feet - An odd name for a move where he is actually using water to hurl himself towards the opponent in a kick rather than wind. I think he should actually use wind instead! Where Fujin manipulates wind to hurl whirlwinds and tornados at the opponent, Rain should use it differently to hurl himself at the opponent instead.
Shocking Bolt - Plain and simple, Rain summons lightning which strikes down at the opponent which hurls him/her up into the air. It worked fantastic in UMK3, however, it was rather useless in MKA. If the opponent just stepped a tiny bit to either side, the move wouldn't connect. It's freaking lightning! Anyways, I would like for it to be like in UMK3 again and also the opponent should appear electrified when being struck.
Super Roundhouse - This was the funniest of Rain's moves. A normal roundhouse which hurls the opponent out of the screen and fly in from the other side of the screen. I love this move! This would be a wind element move as well, and with the 2.5D gameplay in the upcoming MK it would be possible to have it return.
Mystic Vapors - A teleportation move. Rain twirls into a pool of water which appears beneath him only to reappear in another pool of water behind the opponent. What I miss in MK is that you can teleport to several places on the stage rather than just behind the opponent, a bit ala Street Fighter's teleportation system. Depending on what button you use, you should be able to teleport right behind the opponent, in front of him/her or at the other end of the screen. Rain should be able to do something like that.
Rain should also have other moves where he uses water. Though Rain can control all aspects of the weather, water seems to have become his primary element due to having Raiden control lightning and Fujin control wind. A very few characters in games seem to manipulate water, but there are a few out there.
One of them is Sogetsu Kazama from the Samurai Shodown series, a ninja with a water demon called Suija sealed into his blade and through it he can manipulate water. And he does it in a quite cool way.
Here he is:
One of his moves is that he conjures a pool of water beneath the opponent from where water sprouts up, hurling the opponent airborne. It works rather much like the Shocking Bolt move.
Here's a super move version of it:
Another move that is quite interesting is that Sogetsu is able to make a bubble of water around him when jumping. I am not entirely sure what it does, if it damages the opponent if hitting him/her with it or maybe repels incoming attacks or projectiles. Anyways, it could be fun for Rain to make some kind of bubble shield of sorts which could counter projectiles or something.
Here's an animation of Suija making a bubble while airborne:
What is interesting is that Suija is, like Vega from Street Fighter, a narcissistic/sadistic stereotype like Milaana mentioned could be cool to have for Rain as well. I could totally see Rain as this arrogant man who finds himself superiour to others due to being a direct descend of Argus and thus a half-god. However, if Rain is to appear in the upcoming Mortal Kombat, he wouldn't know this yet and is an assassin for Shao Kahn. I wouldn't mind if Netherrealm Studios made it so Rain already knows though, having Quan Chi tell him alot earlier. That way, Quan Chi has another reason to be in the game as well, other than being entwined with Scorpion/Sub-Zero's storylines.

I would definitely like to see Rain return, I really liked his MKArmageddon look, except for the cape thing. We do need more Edenian males, they should have created some earlier, say maybe in MK4 or Deadly Alliance, but I digress. I hated that they made Rain a traitor in Armageddon. His MK3 ending should have been canon and Rain should have been loyal to Edenia. I also always wanted a romance between Rain and Kitana hinted at, like they were supposed to be courted so Kitana could become queen or something, Rain being the son of Argus, Kitana already being princess. I would like to see some sort of confrontation with them in this game. Also to the post above, Rain should have some water special moves, but he shouldnt be too much like Raiden with the lightening and all.

Jaded-Raven, great concepts; especially the jet stream, bubble, roundhouse kick, and the puddle geyser maybe multiple hits, kinda like fighting the watergod on MKM: Sub Zero which was always my favorite boss battle. I don't want this guy to look like a monk, yet I agree he should be different than a ninja, and keep the purple color scheme in some way (his trademark). I think a great supermove would be a storm cloud that follows the opponent for a few seconds and randomly strikes them lol kinda like in the cartoons where nomatter where they run/block they can't hide LOLOLOL that is if connected properly; that would be awsome incorporated into this game. There's just so much you can do with a character with an elemental power, he's really a great overlooked powerhouse that needs some attention, could become a fan favorite if implimented right. Imagine a Fatality with a cut-up fighter that can't excape a bloody bubblebath and actually drown. Or perhaps a better performed inner-ear fatality where the head shoots up a geyser off the rest of the body; blood in water always made a scary scenario. He could have a waterspout or whirlpool fatality. Hell I'm upset that they gave him a fucking elephant for an animality, why didn't they give him an octopus or something aquatic like a pool of pirannahs; if they return he needs something more his character/realistic. I just hate both his MK Trilogy fatalities, way too unimpressive/unrealistic each.

All I can say is, NRS, please watch Avatar: The Last Airbender (the cartoon) before you design Rain. And I already said this once, but I want him to look a little reminiscent of Ezio from Assassin's Creed. I think the mask suits him, because he's a traitor and he needs to hide his face. Unless Raiden recruits him this time around...

I think he should be a lot more of a Samurai. There's no real Samurai's in MK, imagine an elemental one? I like the ideas proposed here but I totally think he needs a mask. He's an outlaw in Edenia, and Purple is a mysterious colour, it just wouldn't suit him if he was unmasked. Perhaps he wears the mask as a cockiness kinda thing: He doesnt wan't to waste his good looks on lesser beings. I like the idea of his ego being huge due to the fact he's a Royal Demi-God, I would love to see him have delusions of grandeur and being the most arrogant and snobby of the roster, perhaps wanting to overthrow Shao Khan and seeing him as a lesser force than himself.
I also feel that he should be some sort of samurai. Hotaru, in my opinion, was a failed character and MK's only real attempt at a samurai, in terms of his uniform and what not. I think this would give Rain individuality, help his fanbase grow, and in the long run I think it would help him with some self-esteem problems I feel that he has.

Um...
If you're talking about fighting with a katana or having a Bushido-esque mindset, not noticing Kenshi is a samurai is a pretty glaring oversight.
Unless you only care about characters who look the part, in which case, Shao Kahn's always been very samurai. Or was for the past 17 years, until his awful new costume genericized the crap out of his armor and lost all the cool Japanese design elements.

Water elemental magic has plenty of potential. They just haven't done it right yet. "Not needed" is a pretty subjective point of view.

MK would not, and has not suffered without Rain and his glorious water magic. That is why he is not needed. Someone else could be given his water powers as part of their abilities.
But if Rain were to be in this game (I wouldn't be suprised), then I would hope they would develop him as much as possible. And take away his foolish spandex.

Rain's powers involves the control of stormy weather elements. Lightning made perfect sense for him.
And I agree with Razor that there is already a samurai character in Kenshi. Hotaru was also quite samurai'ish and I loved his naginata weapon style and his special moves, especially in Armageddon. I hope we see more of him and the Order/Chaosrealm in the future.
However, making Rain more samurai like would be a nice difference. I wouldn't want him to appear like a traditional samurai, but more like an Edenian interpretention of a samurai, like Kitana would be the Edenian take on a kunoichi (female ninja).

Sub-zero and Scorpion are also not needed for the greater storyline, they don't do anything for the main plot in MK2 and 3.
So cut them aswel?
Not all characters should be for the mainplot.
I rather see a male edenian than some shadow clone of sub-zero...

What is it with people on this forum and the word "redundant" these days?
There's a difference in needed and wanted. And clearly, some people on this forum wants Rain to appear in the game. Your arguement about just giving his powers to someone else could be said about anyone. You could just as well have said "Give Raiden's powers to Sindel".
Also, most of the characters in MK aren't needed. As Milaana said, Scorpion and Subbie aren't really needed either. That you don't need Rain to be in the game is entirely subjective.
I would love that, for Rain to be a vain ,snobish character because of his heritage and to make him less ninja esque. It would be cool to see him unmasked in at least one of his forms, I'm pleasantly surprised to see all the Rain supporters. I'd also like to see Rain have a Tritan symbol somewhere on his uniform like Poseidon.
Awesome list of moves Jaded-Raven, those would be epic to see.
I would also give him:
Tidal wave kick- it would be a play off of his windy feet kick, but instead of the tiny bit of water coming out, have Rain ride a wave of water to kick an opponent out of the air( giving him an anti-air attack as well)
Whirlpool- Rain creates spinning vortex of water around himself that sucks in close enemies and sends them spinning around for a bit and sends them flying outward.

His look should be fitting of a noble, mysterious yet dangerous warrior. I mean the man's a half god with complete control of the weather and hydrokinesis, he should look the part of a kick ass addition to Shao Khan's army (which, I have to say despite loving Rain, I've often wondered why the F*** Khan even has him in his army in the first place when compared to the likes of Baraka, Mileena or Reptile)
I liked his Armageddon look, bar the cape. Perhaps make his armour look more mystical but with an oriental feel to it, Edenian fashions seem to be a bit liberal so I'm sure his outfit could be reminiscent but not too generic. Make his outfit sleek but royal, imperial and befitting of what we know of him. If Quan Chi had told him of his lineage in this timeline I'd love that, it could create a new storyline for Rain where prior to Kitana's defiance of Khan they are mutually attracted to each other, but upon hearing of his status he makes it his new mission to slay both Kitana and Sindel and ascend to the throne of Edenia as it's only Royalty. Plus it livens up Kitana's storyline having a new assassin after her who she has ties with, and if Jade is to stay alligned to the Edenian Throne in this timeline, it also gives Jade a new enemy too.
Might seem like it's only fluffing up other characters having him in the roster with my ideas but I think the one thing Rain truly needed in the past was to have more interactions with the characters. Even Khameleon earned some fans for her connections to Reptile.

I was never a fan of Rain. I used to hate him like I hate Chameleon these days. But MKA made him into an actual jackass with entitlement issues, and I found it really worked for the character. I wouldn't mind seeing him again, but he's not high up on my list. They certainly have tried more for him than they have with Sheeva and Kintaro, at the very least.
I'm actually in agreement with Milaana here. MK doesn't really have a vain, narcissistic character, and it could really work for him. He's already kind of a bastard, and might work well as the character fans love to hate.
He's likely very normal without the mask, so I'd love for him to show off his face. There's no real mystique about him to be lost. I think that out of all the present and former 'ninja', he could break the mold easiest.
I'd suggest he look not so much like a samurai - that area has been covered to various degrees elsewhere. I've always seen him as more of a thief-in-the-night type of character, and his MKA look almost nailed it for me.
I was never a fan of him OR Nightwolf using lighting-themed attacks. I say BIG focus should be placed on his water-manipulating abilities. Water is a ridiculously malleable element, and the things he could pull off with that kind of power are limitless.
-He could summon waves to sweep the enemy toward him, away, or upwards (if we don't want to see the water sphere return).
-He could launch himself around via the same.
-He could use upward-rushing water streams to hold the enemy in place for a second.
-He could form shields to protect from projectiles.
-We've seen him teleport through water - what hif he could make himself temporarily intangible as well?
-Water-based fatalities have ridiculous potential. He could crush someone with sheer water pressure from a monster tidal wave, or he could envelop them in a water sphere, and taunt the enemy as his drowns them.
Seriously. MK team, if you're paying attention...

I like that idea, except I wouldnt want to see Rain enemies with Kitana/Sindel/Jade, He should be loyal to the Edenians and their people for once.

ok this is why he is not redundant and why he is interesting...
1. hes a half god
2.hes a prince
3. brother of taven and daegon
4.he was created from a prince song lol tats funny and awsome as hell...
5.The Edenian race is descended from the gods. That is the reason for our longevity, our nobility, and our strength. But I am more than a distant relation to the deities of old. I am a direct descendant of Argus himself.

It seems like your having problems with add original post. If you want to know or maybe you just like it the way you have it but still to add the original you must reply to the guy you want to add original to and at the bottom you'll see add original and thats how you do it. This is gonna sound pretty bad I'm guessing.
