Should have just let people play as Shujinko. You know back when MK was starting to branch out during the Midway days before gaming became what it is now nad the MK Team became NRS and basically WB's fighting game cash cow. It would have been cool to see Shujinko be the sort of spin off game protagonist. Like any adventure game would mainly star him and flesh out the Konquest story a bit more because honestly it comes across more as a jumbled abridged tail of his story. It would be nice to see it told without all the silly training mode concessions and fan services.

On topic, as it stands right now he's just a generic player avatar.

May sound unrealistic but I hope he turns out to be Rain and he'll be playable once you unlock everything in the Krypt.

My son and I have a theory that is. If you notice you have the ability to use other ninjas weapons or powers. Therefore the only character it should turn out to be is......chameleon.
