Do you want MK11 to be more like MK9 or MKX in terms of atmosphere (or something different than both?). Personally, I want an MK/MII atmosphere. More mythological and dark. I know MKX was dark, but there was something missing... maybe it was the lack of classic stages and music. I liked MK9, but it was a bit too ‘colorful’ in my opinion.

Something similar to mk deception
I liked both Mk9 and MkX. I did prefer the more colorful levels of Mk9.
I want the levels to have an option of dark or classic look.
Did not care for the red variation in MKX but having the option to pick is always a great bonus.

I'd love a classic feel similar to MK1-MK2
One to match the character select theme I already wrote for it. lol
I'd hate to see the reveal and then have my folks on YouTube asking me to write other one, which is what happened with my MKX select theme.
Basically, I want it to be a fair mix of light and dark, both visually and storywise. We haven't had a light-color character select screen since Deadly Alliance, almost 20 years ago.

I couldn't agree more.

I liked the dark, gritty and gray atmosphere of Mortal Kombat X.
Unpopular opinion, of course, but the Kove and Marketplace are two of the greatest stages in MK history.

MKX presentation + Deception or MK4 music + MK9 colors = perfect blend for me.

MK2 & MKD style. If i had to chose between mkx and MK9, MK9 for sure. Better color, great (classic) stages and characters. This created the atmosphere that i liked about the MK series.
Like others already said, MK should lean more towards eastern astethics/ lore again. The series is basically inspired and build around it. And there is so much they can do with it.

MKX's overall gritty atmosphere was fine, it was the lack of colour, good background music, stages, the story and just overall that it was very bland. I also didn't like how shiny characters were, it was if they were not part of the environment and a way for NRS to separate them from the background. MK11 looks to be more of the same, though a bit more colourful it seems. I think it's all about the music and stages now.

MKX's atmosphere was perfect. But I'm naturally a horror fan, so the darker the better. But ultimately I'd like a mix of MKD and MKX- just the perfect balance.
MK2+MKGold+MKDeception+MKShaolinMonks+MKX
MKArmageddon, while the game is probably the worst in the series, I did like some of the aesthetics in story mode and some of the arenas.
MK9 was too cartoony, I was not really a fan of the look of this game. They could have paid way better homage to MK-MK3. The thing that still bothers me is they put The Pit 2 on Shang Tsung’s island. The Pit 2 is not on Shang Tsung’s island, The Pit 2 is in Outworld. The Pit 1 is on Shang Tsung’s island. Wtf NRS?

I agree that MK9 was too cartoony. It looked like "Defenders Of The Realm: The Video Game".
I think ultimately I'm fine if they bring back that dark horror aesthetic of MKX. MKX really is a beauty to behold.

I think MKX did a lot right. I’d strip away the washed out aesthetic and not be afraid of the color palette.

A lot of people keep saying that MKX lacked color, but I just don't see it. I recently played it a few weeks ago and thought the color popped where it mattered. But perhaps it's my TV?

MK9 felt more nostalgic and, for me, is up there as the best in the series alongside MK2. MKX felt dull, grey, and uninspiring overall. We need more of the MK9 formula, but I doubt that will ever happen again.

Thank God.
I don't need to see our MK ladies running around looking like they belong on ads for Xtube. The charater models were hideous too. MK9 was downright embarassing.

No, MK9 was a good game and it breathed new life into the franchise- we wouldn't be here without it. But it had its flaws and now when I look back at it- I cringe.
MKX matured the series and I don't want to see that taken away. MK9 looked like a cartoon and MKX looked like a film.

That is how I feel. The game is sooo cartoony looking now in comparison to MKX. Looking back on the OG games part of their aesthetic was being less cartoony than other fighters because of having the digitized characters instead of hand drawn characters/sprites. You had more realistic graphics but within a fantastical setting with a lot of oriental influences. MK3 changed it up a bit with it's American earth realm stages although it tried to keep the dark and ominous MK feel with them.
In my opinion, MKX and Deadly Alliance are the two post-MKII games that have come the closest to recapturing that aesthetic of the first two games. Like many of you my only quibble with MKX's look was that it was a bit too washed out with it's colors. The MK11 screenshots look perfect with the realism from MKX carried over but with the colors popping just a bit more.

MKX dark and gritty style for me. Hopefully the characters won’t look too much like superheroes which is my main concern.
