As for loving Kung Jin. He had the same problem as the rest of the Kids. They all had the same character voice. Snark; and he had a dull and sort of odd design. If they spiced him up, like with all the Kids, I'd be fine with him.

Seriously, as a homosexual, I cannot convey how much I do not care what sexual orientation a fictional character is. Mortal Kombat has no sexual activity, so I fail to see why it matters. It's a fighting game, not a sex simulation. Aside from the bow, gay Kung Lao didnt interest me much, anyways.

I mean, come to think of it, if we are to take his arcade ending as canon, he's pretty much completed his story arc. He's proven himself and is helping Kung Lao overcome his undead state, so I don't really feel like the character is being screwed over by not being included in this game. That being said, I would really like to see him return, as I had always wanted a character in an MK game who used a bow as a melee weapon, so I was thrilled when he was leaked for MKX.

I don't think we are to take that ending as canon. It doesn't even make sense with how the revenants are established to work.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this story is a complete shit show of a mess at this point. I’ve lost count at how many times Raiden has gone from good to bad, to time traveling to undo the past. Then there’s the revenants; who are all over the place in terms of consistency. It’s mind boggling at just how poor the writing has become. It’s as bad, if not worse, as Fox’s X-Men debacle.

At this point, I’ve given up on the story. Just give me Kitana each and every game and I’ll be good.

I confronted John Vogel about this on twitter back in 2016 and he basically laughed. Which pretty much told me that really the story is nothing to fuss about these days. NRS don't even take it seriously.

Yeah I don’t think Kung Jin being left out has anything to do with NRS hating gay characters or NRS being anti-PC / anti-SJW. Maybe they don’t have a political agenda and they’re just creating a variety of fighting game characters and some return and some don’t?

As for the character, the bravado kind of annoyed me in the story, but I kinda get it now. For gameplay, I really liked his bojutsu style, but the other two didn’d Do much for me.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him return as DLC provided his look got some serious upgrades and he had more exciting stuff going on than a chakram and what not. Outside of the fire breathing bow and arrow staff, which is great, it kinda feels like he needs some more compelling specials.

As for the whole generic thing. I really don’t get why a fighter can’t just be a fighter without being called generic. I rarely see that word used for a lot of other characters in this series that could easily be described that way if you boil them down to their look or gameplay, but man do Jaqui and Kung Jin take a lot of shit in this regard.

Well the think what makes the difference is them not being that distinct from other characters who were there first.

Kung Jin: Another monk and not that stylish either unlike Clint White Lotus. (Kung Lao)

Takeda: Probably the least generic out of the bunch but was bogged down by his character design and him being as tech reliant as the rest of the new earthrealm characters.

Cassie: Practically nothing separates her from her parents. She's Kira if they took Kano out of the gene pool.

Jaqui: Another military character who also has weaponized arms.

Give all that the blandest character designs possible and the same replant personality and there you have it.

You can tell NRS hates homosexuals because they selected Kung Jin to be their first homosexual character.

Mileena and Tanya are hinted at having some form of relationship.... does that count?
