Where was Kung Lao in the movies??

I never understood why they left the current Kung Lao out of either MK movie. He was the only fighter from MK1 or MK2's select screen that wasn't in either movie.
The only references are to the 'Great Kung Lao' - not even a mention was given to the modern one.
The only time either was to be seen in the movies was in the 'scripted but not filmed' scene in the 1st movie, where the Earth fighters bury Art Lean underneath a statue of the 'Great Kung Lao' in the garden of statues on Shang's island.
-But that wasn't even filmed, I thought they should have at least shown the statue at some point in the movie.
They only mention his name twice (I think, and that is for the Great Kung Lao): When Liu Kang challenges Shang Tsung at the end of the 1st movie,
Shang: "Johnny Cage, I challenge you."
Liu: "No you'll fight me. I am Liu Kang, decendant of Kung Lao. I challenge you to Mortal Kombat..."
And when Shang walks in on Goro intimidating Kano, when he is warning Goro,
Goro: "To what do we owe the honour of your visit Shang Tsung?"
Shang: "I've come to warn you that Kung Lao's decendant is competing in the tournament, you must handle him carefully."
So why do you guys think Kung Lao was never shown in either MK movie? And should he be in MK3?

They turned Liu Kang into the last descendant of the original Kung Lao in the movies, so I guess the filmmakers decided the Kung Lao from the game was useless.

Leaving the modern Kung Lao out of the films was very WRONG!!!!! I've been wanting to ask that question myself. I think he should've had a cameo in the first film (like Jax did) and than he should've had a major role in MKA! He was suppost to be Liu Kang's friend and partner on the quest to save Earth realm in MKA (that's what he was in MK3 the game)!

I heard some rumors about bringing the character Kung Lao to the third movie? Of course it was most likely that, only rumors. Also, by 'last' descendent do they mean the last surviving descendent or just the youngest living? After all, Liu's grandfather was still alive in the first movie. If they meant by youngest living, then the modern Kung Lao could be alive and just older than Liu.

Remember the telegram Liu received informing him of his brother's death, it was 'signed' grandfather. Also the scene at the temple in which Liu meets Rayden for the first time. The old guy who said something like, "Please forgive him Lord Rayden. American life has weakened his mind. Too much television." He was Liu's grandfather.

So that's him huh? Well, I don't think anyone would have wanted a bald-headed Kung Lao so It was probably better to leave him out of the movies.

What do you mean Kung Lao being bald-headed? The old man was Liu Kang's grandfather not Kung Lao. I was just pointing out that Liu Kang may not be the only surviving heir of the 'great' Kung Lao only the youngest.

I was confused, I was thinking that you said "he" was Kung Lao. I forgot about you saying "The other descendant of Kung Lao". But come on, I know it would be a LITTLE funny to see an old bald-headed guy in a Kung Lao outfit.LOL
BTW, I remember a while back whenever I went to this Mortal Kombat website and on the homepage it showed a picture of Kung Lao in metal armor and Li Mei was right beside him with MK3 in front of them. Did anyone else ever see this before?
