Sonya as Shang Tsung's opponent

I wonder what Shang Tsung planned to do with Sonya in the 1995 movie as his opponent. How come she's not shown fighting him?

Were you not listening to the dialogue? He wanted to beat an easy opponent to win the 10th tournament for Outworld.....................

Sonya's not an easy opponent (none of the characters are), if we're talking female characters in MK. She might be easier but not easy.

She snapped Kano's neck, and he is tough.

Sonya's not an easy opponent (none of the characters are), if we're talking female characters in MK. She might be easier but not easy.

He single-handedly dragged her ass into Outworld....... he had NO scratches, bumps, or bruises.... and you want me to think he'd have trouble beating her in MK? Pffff....

She wasn't really any match for a forceful sorcerer but definitely a mercenary. Really shows Liu Kang's strength. He damaged him though where as Sonya may not of, who were mortal.
