This is a pic that I drew for FrostRules based on a description that she gave me. This character is from a fanfic that she is writing so I hope that's MK related enough.

1337...there is no 1337 none of us can be 1337 because we are all the same, we are all human. The sooner we realize that, the better off we'll be.
Novastarr! how did you improve so much in such short time? do keep on improving!

Now for the real critiques. The overall drawing is wonderful. Your shading is very nice, and I love the hair.
The problem is the design behind the character. You said it was someone elses so I guess that's their fault. The pose is supposed to be aggresive I'm guessing but by the character and lack of emotion I'd say she was checking her nails instead. The clothes are uninspired to me, I would add a pattern to it, embroidery perhaps, and give it a look of fabric, not spandex. Other than that, her very thin frame would never produce a chest that large. Unless all the fat on her body went there. Uhh... nevermind, the breasts look fine, unnatural but that's okay.
Believe it or not, I really like it. Just plan more in the design phase.

I looked back at the originals of my MK practice drawings and saw that I had drawn them all in '99 so, as I said before, I had no idea as to how much my style might change over that large period of time. I was drawing in that time, just not MK.

I noticed that too. When I finished, and looked back at it, I knew there was something wrong, or something about it didn't retain my interest. That's basically why I went back to adding a bit more detail to the hair.
FrostRules wanted this to be a princess with a Lara Croft feel (a partial excuse for her chest size :P) so it was really tough to figure out what to do with the clothes. The character had to have a cape and a crown and all I could think the whole time was "with shorts? How is that going to work?" So I tried, and at least by this I know what I need to work on and what elements that I like that I might want to carry on to future pics.
Thank you all for replying. It means a lot to me a and it really helps me out.

Well, that kinda explains the whole picture doesn't it. Good job then I'd say.
Take it easy

Excellent detail, nice job!
Now, as for the scketchy: Excellent shading. I think my favorite parts are the shading in the upper torso and the sharp highlighting in the boots and belt. Very nice detailing on the hair/ponytail strands and the folds in the upper cape. Hell, even the orb of the pendant is well-done. Very impressive penciling.
I agree with others who have mentioned about her upper body being a bit bulky for her limbs and neck, but since ya mentioned Lara...heh, well, I'd say you captured that body resembleance quite well. The limbs could use a bit more definition and curvature to complement the upper body though.
My main concern isn't so much the body frame- tis the hands. I know many girls aren't depicted with 'man hands', but her hands and fingers seem to be too petite.
If ya wanted to rectify this digitally- Could simply just select the hands, increase their size only (by about 120% say), and resmudge/touchup to make them fit the wrists.
Could also have the pony tail and body cast a drop shadow on the cape. Of course, this depends on your light source, so it may or may not be warrented.
Even without the casted shadows- tis still a stellar sketch. One could always imagine its Sonya's sister or someshuch ;)
Very impressive sketch, Nova. Marked improvment, I'd say 8)

I know what you mean about the hands. I couldn't decide on what I wanted to do with them in the end, and since I was on a time limit, I sort of left them uninspired. I sort of wanted fist, yet at the same time I wanted a delicate princess look. I wanted strong, intimidating gestures but I didn't want it overbearing and throwing off the balance of the image.
Since I couldn't make up my mind, this is the result lol. As for the upper body, it sort of got a bit of the undecided disease that the hands had but not quite as much. I knew that I wanted the top form fittin, and I knew I wanted an 'emphasized' chest, but I didn't know whether I wanted to tone it down by adding folds or shrinking her chest size so I settled on spandexy.
Well, off to draw more MK pics. Ja ne!
