The Emperor

Long before the first Mortal Kombat tournament, a dark evil was to be brought in to the world, his conceivers, mystical traitors to the realm of Outworld, and dark, disturbed spell casters. At this time, Outworld was but a minute Realm, no larger than Earthrealm, however during the events of the coming tournaments it expanded into a monstrous land where evil thrived on its air and hell rested on its waters. Its ruler, Shao Kahn, an Immortal Demonic Sorcerer, rose to the position of Emperor after poisoning his master Onaga. His influence and destructive purpose swept across the realms, leaving billions dead in his path.

Little is known of his origin. Only that he was born into Royalty in the guarded city of Zhai Zhin in Outworld. His parents, wealthy landowners and spell casters, ruled over the city with an iron fist, destroying all those who opposed their rule. Their influence and evil would eventually run into the blood of their first born, Shao Kahn. They raised him in the ways of evil, teaching him the dark arts and subjecting him to physical and mental torture, something which left a festering flame of hatred that lodged itself into his soul forever. He spent his childhood learning the values of hatred from his father, a hellish spawn of the Netherealm and his mother, an Outworld born Baroness. He often travelled the land of Outworld, taking in its beauty, and deep inside himself, knew he would once rule, it was his destiny to change the fate of this realm. At this time, the Emperor of Outworld, Haman Rak-Shi had just been slain in battle by the mighty Dragon warrior Onaga, Onaga claimed the throne of Outworld and attempted to continue its prosperous charm and landscape. It was a majestic, tranquil land until the days of Kahn; he enveloped the realm in hatred and mutilated its people, turning it into a hell. He merged its land with others, amalgamating over one hundred realms into Outworld before Liu Kang staved off his almost inevitable victory to consume Earthrealm.

He grew into his teens, realising he was not like any other Outworld citizen, he believe himself to be pure, a Race of great power and greatness. His bigotry behaviour led to his lack of popularity, growing up with no friends, he secluded himself to his chambers, studying martial arts and sorcery, eventually finding a way to defy the laws of mortality. He studied in his room, and went to his cleaning chambers; he spotted hairs on his chin and continued with his studying. After dark, he exited to the lands of Outworld to pass the time. He stumbled upon a group of children, around his age. They laughed at his deformed face, which had begun to grow horns on his forehead, taken from his father. He clenched his hand into a fist and it began to glow. The children slowly ceased laughing and attempted to run, perceiving his sorcery as a threat. As they did, the oldest, an 18 year old boy from a slum city was tripped and dragged into Kahn's presence. Kahn kicked him to his back and raised his hand. Placing his boot onto the boy's chest, his hands began to glow green and his eyes turned white. The boy convulsed in pain as his skin turned lighter. His companions at this point had stopped and watched in horror, sobbing as their friend was being killed. Kahn looked up at them, refreshed as the hairs on his chin began to disappear. He had halted his aging process by condemning another person's soul to walk around aimlessly inside of Kahn, and he couldn't care less. Kahn rushed towards the children and only their screams could be heard between the crushing of bones and splatters of blood on the cold Outworld ground.

Into his adulthood Kahn, still fairly young looking had been orphaned. His parents were killed by Onaga, who ransacked their village and perceive them a threat to his reign as Emperor. Kahn, angered, once again secluded himself for years, allowing his age to get the better of him. He emerged, 7 years later, Horn's more protruded, and body more toned and large. He knew he could not yet destroy Onaga, so travelled to the Emperor's castle and became his advisor. He was Onaga's second in command. Onaga felt secure with Kahn's presence and felt sympathy for the orphaned boy, unbeknownst to him that he had murdered his parents in cold blood. Kahn stayed with Onaga for years and eventually mustered the courage to kill the Emperor. By this point, Outworld was the most powerful empire in all the realms, although Onaga's selfishness and determination for Immortality annoyed most of his cohorts, so they prayed for his death, a death which would eventually be delivered by the future emperor Shao Kahn. Years before, Kahn had heard of Mortal Kombat, an ancient tournament established during Onaga's reign which stopped realm to realm immediate conquest and invasion. Kahn poisoned his former master, stuffing his raw fish with poison. Onaga dropped to the ground, coughing blood, his wings flapped maniacally, smacking his guards who at the point had remained calm, having previously allied with Kahn before his intention of assassination was even considered. Onaga finally looked up at Kahn and made one last attempt to kill him, spitting fire, only for Kahn to avoid it and kick The Emperor in the head, ending his reign and his existence. Onaga was buried that night, in the ceremonial tombs underneath the castle, guarded forever by Empire guards.

Kahn took his infamous throne after all these long years. He took the seat of power and laughed heartily as he did. His conquest on the realms was about to begin. He swallowed realm after realm having won 10 straight victories in Mortal Kombat. One of his first conquests was Zaterra, a once proud race of people subjected to torture and slavery by Kahn's Outworld forces. Kahn took many hostage and used them as slaves, eventually growing fond of one of them; his name was Reptile, the son of Barbaric Island Warrior's, killed in Kahn's conquest. Kahn's fed and clothed the boy, using his sorcery to wrap him in soft, pink, human flesh, until Kahn's magical influence wore off.

Kahn also seeked many other realms to merge with Outworld, expanding it into a mass of evil and hatred, death and destruction. He seeked Edenia, a once proud and neutral race of people, beautiful and merciful though they may have been, Kahn's influence led many of them to betrayal, tyranny and murder. He ransacked the realm after his Champion Shang Tsung, a young Half-Earthrealm warrior defeated Edenia's best. Kahn enveloped the realm and in its process of merger, took the throne, murdered the King, murdered then resurrected his wife, and adopted his daughter. Kahn had met Tsung after a Mortal Kombat battle, Tsung had lost due to forfeit and Earthrealm had lost one fight against Outworld. This fight would be forgotten as Kahn invited the young warrior into his life and taught him the ways of the dark arts, he taught him to steal life force in order to replenish his own, and the magic's of shape shifting. Kahn had created a monster in Tsung, who in turn wo9uld serve the Emperor as his Mortal Kombat Champion for many generations, until his defeat at the hands of the Great Kung Lao. Tsung would once again get into good graces with his master, winning 9 straight victories against Earthrealm with the aid of his Shokan apprentice, Prince Goro, a four armed, half human- half dragon creature from a subterranean realm, merged with Outworld many years ago. Tsung was defeated by a Shaolin monk named Liu Kang, the Great Kung Lao's descendant. Kahn eventually grew tired of this conquest and directly annexed Earthrealm; his forced merger had angered the Elder Gods, who stripped him of his powers as he was defeated by Liu Kang. That was the end of the once great Emperor's conquest, vanished.
