Thats the same way I feel. its very frustrating.
However I like the way your smoke looks. If you give it some more shading and add a bit of highlights it will blend with the background and pop! keep up the good work!

It's okay. Why is smoke blurry in so many random spots on his body?
Why can I see his entire eyebrow if it's supposed to be just the side of his face?
I really like the background, what did you use to convert it into that artistic style?

Yahoo, some insightful responses I got there.
Indeed; I wish this site could actually develop to the level where such banter wasn't possible, EmperorKahn. In my dreams, in my dreams. I paid a lot of attention to the muscles and anatomy with this one – more than anything else basically. I'm not sure if it's topnotch anatomy-wise however, do you guys see any flaws concerning that? Thanks, xB$INx: there's no other secret than a) practice and b) enthusiasm to practise.
This artwork doesn't necessarily mean that you will never meet new shitty doodles of mine coming up again. Maybe this means that you'll get to see some more of these in the coming future though. Plus some surprises!
In fact, blacksaibot, I kind of was in a hurry to get it done before a weekend away thus I just blurred some of the borders for "smoke FX" and to make it look a tad nicer. The eyebrow thing was an accurate find, actually I should fix that. Originally I had some quite ambitious plans with this drawing: In my B&W sketch there were like five Smokes (of which only this one was the "current & real" one – others were of smoke) running a massive circle around the opponent in an attempt to make a smoke ring/tornado of death where the two would then fight to death in bare bones Mortal Kombat.
Who would be the perfect opponent for Smoke?
The setting would have been Netherrealm, but later I realized that there were no decent backgrounds of Netherrealm for this specific battle thus I decided to go with this one. Also I have still things to learn what comes to the professional usage of the smoke effects, but I may keep the plan in mind for future. The background style was actually really simple to create – it was the "cartoonify" effect in GIMP2 if I recall correctly. It's worth trying.
