Kung Lao's vendetta color
Artist's Remarks: | |
Hey, this is the second time I have colored something from the_suit. In case you haven’t notice I like to overdo it on the coloring, lol, it’s all about having fun with the color, so don’t take it so serious, but I hope you guys like it

ooooo shiny
well the shading job on this is very good, you did a great job with his costume, it looks great.
Im not a fan of the backround, to "loud"it draws attention away from your color job, you said u like to do it, i dont really like how you put the shine in his hair, it doesnt look natural, its also outlined in white, i think you did it so it wouldnt blend with the backround, but im not sure.
over all i like this
4/5

Well, I like this a bit better than your first attempt. You didn't use as many gradients this time, though I feel you still used a somewhat too powerful one for my liking. I understand your "having fun with the colors" approach, but you must remember there are a few important things you must remember. Probably the most important, defiantly when you are coloring something that isn't your own, is to preserve the artist's original details as intactly as you can. Which, you did a fairly alright job here, a couple areas could have been better though.
The head seems to be colored nicely, I like the hair's color overall, but the white pixels that are still present look too out of place. The shine is alright, its just a bit too bright on his left side. The skin color was chosen well, seems pretty smooth, though I think you may have overused the shadows on this portion of the drawing. Kung Lao's head doesn't seem tilted that much to cause the amount of shadows that are present. The collar's color is quite nice, but the 'gleam' effect takes away alot of the smaller lines that for detail.
The upper part of the cloak still looks smooth as far as textures are concerned. I can't quite remember if this is the color The_Suit wanted this, but either way I suppose the color choice is pretty decent. Though, I'm not sure if those lines you colored blue should have been done that way, they stand out a bit too much. The belt seems good as well. The 'straps' that go across his chest were nicely colored, perhaps the highlights were a bit overused in this area though. You did a pretty nice job with the lighting effects along the rest of the upper body though. Also, I must mention the gauntlets, because you did a fantastic job there, easily the best part of this in my opinion. All but that 'gleam' again of course, other than that those are perfect looing.
Now, the bottom of the cloak contains that 'blocky' coloring I was speaing of. You added alot of the texture yourself, I think it would have been better to color it as it was originally drawn. I believe it is intended to have a more 'stiff' feel to it when I look back at the original drawing. I think you were trying to match it with the top half of the cloak which really didn't turn out so well. Also, the 'buttons' weren't too well preserved, perhaps a different color would be better accenting for them. Again, the 'straps' here ae nice, and aren't as heavy on the lighting effects as the top ones.
About the background, I agree strongly with sandspider, its too distracting. The lightning actually has a nice aura about it though, but the overall color of this 'portal' is too close to the color of Kung Lao's outfit. A background should make the character stand out, or either fit his/her persona. Anyhow, this is an improvement over you first attempt, I think you got alot better.

I can't tell if I like this or not. Even though it's way too many filters for my taste (too much glass, flares I smack your face ) it still manages to look pretty good. The parts where your shading shows look very well done (face, chest, aqua skirt at the bottom). If it still looks good with the filters, it must look very good without. Post this one again without all the filters, I'd be curious to see the difference.
