JAX007's Sub-Zero & Scorpion
Artist's Remarks: | |
This is the best work I've seen from JAX007 in quite a while, and I jumped at the opportunity to colour it. :) I wasn't too fond of the designs at first, but after putting some colour in 'em I must say they're growing on me. The metal parts are a bit crappy, but apart from that, I'm pretty happy with how the picture turned out. I'm even surprised the flames around Scorp's head as well as they did! :)

That's possibly the coolest Scorpion design I've ever seen.

DAAAAMN!!!!! That's awesome! Great coloring. The fire it's pretty cool. I think the Kanji on Scorpion's chest should've been red but it's pretty cool that way.
5/5 Dragon Points.

WoW. This coloring is amazing. It is so clean and neat. What did you use to color it? I like the fact that you used a different shade of yellow on his knees than what you used on his clothes. Skin tones look great. I have heard nothing is flawless but if that is true then this is as close as it gets. Awesome job 5/5 Dragons.

Very nice indeed
ok, here are a few things you might want to take into consideration. From one artist to another.
These are mainly things I like to do.
#1 Have a distinct light source. Make it easy to see where the light is coming from. This basically means stronger contrast.
#2 Self shadowing, have Sub's head cast a shadow on his chest, and shoulder. Any body part can be casting a shadow on another body part.
#3 Extra light sources, For example, Scorpion's flaming head, would be illuminating the top part of his torso. I would use some orange and yellow for that.
#4 Realism this is just what I like to do... Scorpion's fire would be both in front of his skull, and behind it, making the skull look like it is inside the flame. Right now it kind of looks like his skull is in front of the flame, and not in it.
Either way is cool though.
Ummmmm.....
oh!
#5 Back lighting, in some areas, instead of having the shadow go all the way to the end, instead have a faint highlight at the edge, to make it look like there is a light reflecting off of something and bouncing back on to the shadow part of the body.
Just some things to think about.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
sub-zeromasta: I do all my colour work in Photoshop, using my Wacom Intous2 graphics tablet.
Bleed: Well, what can I say... I'm struggling with lights and shading. As far as the flaming skull goes, I tried toying around with multiple layers and blending modes, but I had to do it very subtle or it turned out really crappy. I think you're right about it though, the flames could've looked alot better.

Whoa Jigsaw, I had to go back and check your other work. I just didn't remember you being that good. Boy was I mistaken, you really have got excellent ability when it comes to coloring. A good drawing really showcases your ability.
Every edge is so clean and polished. The colors used seem very natural. There is a slight amount of artifacts but I can see this getting close to the size limit. You didn't use any shadows or lighting and to me that's good. Use it fully or don't use it at all.
I rarely give out 5 dragons but today I do.
Take it easy

I agree with ^ and would add to have added an actual background.

WTF is up with all the n00bs replying to such old threads?! I'll never understand it. Anyways, do not reply to any more threads that are older than 3 months and are no longer active or within the first couple of pages.
