I voted for Kenshi. He's such a badass. If he were ever in a Mortal Kombat movie, he should be played by Keanu Reeves.

Literally couldn't even tell who won at first upon going to the SMKC page because Smoke and NS are fucking monochromatic.
Anyway, it's safe to say that Kenshi and Ermac both got dicked something fierce in the MKX storyline. I mean, Kenshi was completely out of place in the Special Forces and served as nothing more than a plot device for his kid.
I marked out HUGE for K&E's one-on-one match introductions, however. Those were great.

While I essentially agree, I didn't take it to heart since the same aspect of both of their stories is heavily focused on Daegon and the Red Dragon. And I'd like to think they didn't just open and close that sub plot within the same game seeing how it's pretty central to both of their stories. Not to mention still alludes, or at least implicates the idea that events of Armageddon are still somewhere in the mix and at least touching on that era is likely the next step considering all the cameos and references. *Edit: Realize now that I didn't specify even though context given is sufficient, but I'm speaking about Kenshi and Takeda, not Kenshi and Ermac, just in case lol.

Ermac. Whilst his latest appearance wasn't great, he's still an overall cooler character than Kenshi.

Kenshi.
In the battle of the telekinetics I like Kenshi a thousand times more. While I thought Ermac's MK9 alt was hands down one of the best looks in the series and completely separated him from his palette swap roots, I'm slightly less fond of his MK9 look, even if it does further differentiate him from the ninja persona.
Kenshi though...as little involved as he was in the story, he's just a bad ass. I've always enjoyed the concept of "The Blind Swordsman", and I found his banter (Especially with Johnny) to be among some of the most humorous and clever in the game.
Overall Kenshi is a favorite. One of the best designs from the 3d era. I just wish he had a more significant role in the story. He was merely a DLC character in MK9, and then is just introduced into MKX as though his backstory, history and allegiance is well known and common knowledge. Surely the new timeline has changed something, and frankly I would like to delve deeper into the Shang Tsung connection.
Ermac in the lead atm. Hmmm...

It's super early right now. It'll get closer as the 11th hour approaches. Might end up being the most exciting race of the whole tournament.

They should re-work Ermac's story into one of two things:
1. In the Lin Kuei's cyber initiative, all souls are processed through a super computer, stored in a database, and are distributed into high-tech cybernetic shells. One day an error occurs and all the souls from the database merge and escape into a prototype unit. This unit calls itself ErMac and seeks vengeance against the Lin Kuei.
2. A young sorcerer who becomes obsessed with the art of collecting and manipulating souls has a twist of fate when one day all the souls he's amassed turns on him and takes over his body and imprisons him within his own shell. This new entitiy, which calls itself Ermac, seeks out the Lin Kuei for training and discipline to further control the sorcerer's soul.
I don't like the current Ermac. He's like a telekinetic mummy born from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung's sloppy seconds.

Does a character have to be somehow linked with the Lin Kuei to be enjoyable in anyway at all for you? And no, not a cybernetic Ermac, that's an awful idea, we already have a red cyborg.

Except there's never been a Sub-Zero vs Fujin final...ever. Fujin's only been to the finals once.
Hell, Ermac's been to the finals as many times as Sub-Zero has but there's only bitching about Sub-Zero and nary a peep about Ermac. People see what they want to see.

I feel like Noob, Sub Zero and Ermac go very far each year. Not saying it's bad that people like these characters. Just seems like there's a lot of repetition, which is well... Repetitive.
Maybe the top four are put on the shelf the next year?

Ermac was eliminated in the first round (by fucking Goro of all people) last year, something that has never happened to Sub-Zero or NS, so the comparison between them doesn't entirely wash.
That being said, I'm legitimately surprised he's progressed this far in this go-round.

Anyone who wants to start any variation of these kinds of games can do so at any time in the Fan Koliseum. I think it'd be terrific fun to see a new Boot/Immune game! (Most of the classics are archived in the Fan Koliseum for reference).

Some folks can only focus on one or two things (or characters), which is a shame, because every year there are a lot of movements throughout. Like last year: when the tournament's over, I'll try to post some general stats to illuminate some of the noteworthy changes. There has definitely been some movement this year!
It'd be better if there was no whining, rather than a more even spread of whining.
Some folks clamp down on one character and never change, and that's fine, but each year the tournament has a different perspective. 2014 was speculation and announcement, 2015 was Mortal Kombat X after a couple months, 2016 is Mortal Kombat XL and a more complete, settled impression of MKX. Even with obsessive fandom - there are always discernible shifts. 2015 was Fujin's first year in the Top 16, for example. Erron Black made a big impact in his first year, but has fallen off.
