I just wanted to know what is everyones opinion on this matter. I realise that this is an MK forum and I myself am a lifelong mk fan. However there are many gamers I know which always claim that steet fighter is much more better than mk. of course there has'nt been a day where I hav'nt defended mk in this matter. but for all of you out there who agree with me wholeheartedly that mortal kombat is better than street fighter, I would like to know why and please go into detail about why mk whoops street fighters ass anyday.

Mortal Kombat is way better because first of all the way the characters look. MK characters look more realistic and they never look the same in every MK game. Street fighter has them looking the same in every single game. They never change their looks. They might be afraid too. With MK games you dont know what to expect and you always get surprised because of the innovative things they show, also the storylines are way better. Street fighter storylines are really stupid, they are basically the same all the time. Every time i beat a new street fighter game with ryu his ending is always the same. Street fighter is boring and repetitive. Know they are just making them fight with all these other franchises which was kool at the beginning but know its just plain stupid, street fighter is stupid. MORTAL KOMBAT RULES!!!

Mk OWNS street fighter. Mortal kombat has so much more potential, and it is way more popular. It pretty much beats street fighter in every shape and angle.
And if you meant "VS" as in a fight to the finish with the characters, mortal kombat wins by way more than just far.

I think from a "story" point of view Mortal Kombat is more interesting because of the threat that outworld poses to the earthrealm and the atmosphere where you see the fighters go out and fight for their lives with a higher price at stake, namly their soul.
And to add to the fighting: MK is more serious than streetfighter ever was...
you have the fatalities, the weapons and some intersting character backgrounds...
MK rules over Streetfighter in every aspect.

I was going to post "Stop being such damn uber phanbois" but then I remembered what forum I was at =\
MK's story will always be a lot cooler than Street Fighter's, but both series have thier strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, Mk beats street fighter in most respects like storys etc, but street fighter gameplay is great, the earlier MK games didnt really hold up to the street fighters in terms of gameplay, they where good but street fighter was better. what we need is a new street fighter game to go head to head with MK:D

I think there is enough street fighter already, they should just kill the series, its boring and repetitive. It always has the same look, they never change their appreances. B-O-R-I-N-G.
Dude! street fighter sucks ass! it's all animeish (not that I hate anime... I just hate it in some forms)... like SF! and what's with the lame ass power ups and fire balls and... god! even the movie sucked! the only thing I liked is the green dude with orange hair.. but now that I think of it... he's nothing more but an irish wannabe hulk!...so everything about SF sucks.
MK wins by a long shot.

I like both series,SF I never had a problem with untill Street Fighter EX3 it was my first EX game I played.I mean the graphics and moves are cool but the charcter select screen and stages really makes the game look boring. But I like MK a little better than SF when it comes down to the story and fighting.
On the strengths of the current generation of games, I'd say Mortal Kombat. When Tekken 4 and VF4 let me down, Deadly Alliance was sweet relief and reaffirmed my faith in fighting games.
But meh. I guess we owe SF something for helping in its part to shape games the way they are today.
Now, a game of MKvsSF... THAT would be funny! No? Fine...

Well, I dunno...I mean, all of the SF characters were fighting KOF characters in Capcom vs SNK 2....do you see Mortal Kombat fighters fighting Last Blade fighters or something like that? No...
Well, in my opinion, they're pretty close, or more accurately, equal.
I mean, the MK characters don't really interest me, while Doctrine Dark got me interested for a long time.
I dunno. Just my opinion.

SF has a HORRIBLE story line. No effort whatsoever. IMO, MK has the best storyline of any fighting game. The only thing i still like about SF is the combo system. But, id pik MK anyday.

And I do know for a fact that everyone who says SF sucks ass in this topic has never, ever, ever, ever been to or even witnessed a serious Street Fighter tournament. Whether it's the vs series or the solo games.
Anyway, even tho SF is way deeper I still love MK more than any other fighting franchise..so go MK.

Well, on SF's side, the characters there actually had unique fighting styles and moves from the beginning, as opposed to the same moves of MK1-4. But MK has a lot more originality. A good example of this is the character designs. In SF the characters are designed after their fighting style in most cases; they're stereotypical depictions of practitioners of their martial art. MK character designs go beyond that; they're based on types of PEOPLE, in a more general sense. Compare, for example, Kano to Sagat. Sagat is wearing boxer shorts and has tape over his hands and ankles; it's pretty obvious he's a muay thai boxer. Now take Kano. He's a thug with a metallic eye. Sure, you can tell he's a fighter, but it's not obvious. A certain style may fit him (granted, not the ones he had in MKDA), but the don't define him. Same goes for most of the MK characters, while most of the SF characters are more defined by their fighting style.

mk ovbiously,(thats why i joined a mk comm and not a sf one.)especially for the realism. for example:
the air kick makes the op. fall, and in sf it doesnt.
fireballs dont cancel each others.
how the hell would bison conquer the world, winning in a simple tournament
also cuz in sf put T. hawk as a Mexican, (also he was a useless char)
they were the first in create useless chars, even all the timekillers fighters has good things everyone.
ps: jer jer jer

SF on the snes was a great fighter in its own rights, i had turbo and super, and they where great fun to play over nad over, also had 2 on the gameboy.
but no way did i like it more than MK. MK was always better.
i did not even know SF had a story till now, i always just thought of it as hey heres a fighter lets play.
mk is heres a fighter, lets play, o crap there is a storyline that is great, and each game omes from the last, and fighters.
the fighters in mk where original, motaro, i never expected a sinator, but when i 1st saw him i was like kickass.
then like goro, i was woa, and then kintaro, i was like dam bitch is stiger then goro ever was, and shokahn was cool, so was shangshung.

I have been playing these two games for so long, it would be hard for me to choose between them. Right in this time, I would give the edge to Mortal Kombat because Midway /Boon and Co. are introducing fresh ideas in each game where Street Fighter is repetitive in the games.
But. I still like to play Street Fighter. Capcom vs SNK 2 is my thing right now. For the person that mentioned the tournaments, Street Fighter tournaments are awesome. There are some really skilled players out there that can do the most outrageous things with characters that I didn't even know could do that.
As long as my world involves Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, then I am one happy man.

I love street fighter, and MK alike.
Choosing for me is pretty tough though.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.............I like the game play in street fighter better, but I like the visuals in MK better also I love the Uppercuts, and the special moves are cool.
If I had to choose between MK2, and Street fighter 3.
On 2 out of 3 I'd have to go with Street fighter 3.
Because I just like the way it plays better.
I like the combos and super moves and the fighters are more diverse than the ones in the 2D MK's.
There is just more to do in street fighter.
On recent games though in the 3D realm, I'll go with MK obviously.
