I would guess the ninjas are Japanese, Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Shang Tsung are chinese. Kano was Australian or some shit in the movie. Sonya, Jax and Johnny Cage are American and Jarek is from the land of Make-Believe.

-Kai is supposed to be part Chinese, yes.
-Sektor may be Japanese. After all, he started the Tekunin in Japan. He may have fled there because that's where he was from.
-Shujinko is most likely Japanese, because his name is.
-Kano was originally born in Japan to an American woman, but that was retconned.

Kai's American and Jarek's Australian. Those are from their MK4 bios, I believe. And I swear I read somewhere around the time DA was out that Cyrax is Kenyan.

All in all, there isn't much diversity between the Earthrealm kombatants.
Mostly centered around the U.S. since that's were the market is, along with the makers.
Then China and Japan, Mongolia too.
Some Australian... and thats about it.

Guess if you want a bunch of nations, go for SF.

Yeah, they don ́t have a lot of traditional earth nationalities on the MK universe.

Instead, the realm thing is a cool idea.

So, a lot of people are american and some are chinese and some from other places, etc.

But I guess in MK universe the realms are almost like countries. I mean, the earthrealm natives might be from USA or Japan, or even China, but in essence, this is almost like they only have one nationality, which is being an earthrealm native . Also, when in earthrealm they don ́t really say where the hell they are... LOL

Kai looks more like he's part Middle Eastern to me. I'd say of all of them, he's the most confusing because in MK4, he didn't even look black, really, and that's what Ed claimed he was supposed to be.

I always thought Kabal's khakis/sandperson look suited someone from the Middle East too, to Hell with the godawful Elvis sideburns and accent he has in Shaolin Monks.

Despite what Vogel and the rest of the Midway crew tell you, Kenshi means "swordsman", or more loosely, "fencer". It does not mean "sword saint", or any other kind of saint for that matter.

and they even got it wrong. The correct form is Kanshin not Kenshi.
