I wish they had made Ultimate for PS2 as a fan service item, but if they did that, they would have just done a port of MK1, MK2, MK3 and MK4 all on the same DVD along with UMK3. They could easily do arcade perfect translations with videos, endings, musics, etc, all arcade perfect, with no loading time on PS2 because all the games are less than the available ram I believe. It's a dream that might come true if the Street Fighter 2 remake does well. We can all hope that Midway will take advantage of that. Also, imagine what they would do for Gameboy advance, by rereleasing MK1 and MK2 on it, and how much better they could make them than the original SNES releases.

They didn't make UMK3 for PS1? Are you sure? I know they made MK3 and MKT for PS1, so why not UMK3?

I must say Im really sorry to hear that there is no umk3 for any of the plasytation systems. Im very disappointed, as I think disks are of better quality than cartriges in many aspects.

UMK3 is on the Saturn, and it's the most arcade perfect version of it.

I got MKT on PS2, well, PS1 but I play it on my PS2. Anyways, you might as well just get that. 10 bucks brand new at any video game store.

There must have been a legal reason why only Saturn released a true arcade port of UMK3 and no other CD system, remember 3DO released MK3 arcade perfect, and the PC version wasn't too bad, but no UMK3 ports as far as I know for either. Then MKT for Saturn coming out like a year after PS1's, I am REALLY interested in seeing what MKT is like for Saturn but unfortunately I doubt I ever will. N64 cannot do the same music and graphics quality that Saturn and PSX can do so naturally CD games are better. The only thing limiting CD systems is RAM.

hey carnage you like my buddy icons?

MK3 never came out for 3DO.

Saturn MKT is pretty much the same as the PSX version. It's missing the very short FMV intro PSX has(with the spinning dragon logo) and the transparency on the shadows/smoke/flames look terrible. Also some voices and sounds are different, in particular the robot voices are messed up and Motaro's teleport sound effect is used when your aggressor meter fills up. There's also some slight slowdown, especially in the Motaro fight. You are not missing much with Saturn MKT.

UMK3 never came out for PSX because Sega had an exclusive contract for it.

Sony had a contract with Midway to produce MK3 for PSX and have it exclusive to next gen consoles for a short amount of time. That is why the PSX port has totally different box art and print ads than the 16 bit ports and why no other next gen system got MK3. It's also why MK3 for PSX came out before the 16 bit ports. Sony published it themselves.

To counter that, Sega made a deal to get UMK3 exclusive on Saturn for a certain period of time.

So they created MKT. That way they could get around the contract and release a version of UMK3 for PSX and N64 in 96, instead of waiting.

UMK3 on the saturn is probably the best version of mk3 I've played. The loading time is really bad... but the graphics, game play, sound, and music are a good match to the arcade. It's as close as your going to get to arcade quality for mk3.

Yeah, it's very good. So is MK3 for PSX. Some minor things are wrong, like Kahn's death scene, Noob still being a black Kano instead of a ninja, but overall it's a great port.

"MK3 never came out for 3DO."

Actually it did.
I saw a thick Player's Guide for the 3DO Mortal Kombat 3 in a bookstore.
It looks just like the arcade (or to me, the powerbars seem longer).

I saw pics for 3DO MK3 a very long time ago, I suppose there is a chance it was never released, but it looked pretty much arcade perfect. And lol, thanks Illusion.

OK, I had some blurry after images in my head, and some confusing/clashing memories. It's UMK3 for 3DO, but this is really screwey, I scanned it lol. The reason I thought it was MK3 was because the screen shots from this gamepro are SNES MK3, but there is one picture that is probably from Saturn UMK3, but they cover the energy bars. Now that I see it, I remember being confused when I was younger.

I am also looking for the EGM with Ermac, I found one from 1992 lol, I don't think I have it.

I know about the preview in Gamepro and the guide, but the game never came out.

There's a pic of the guide that lists it.

3DO had advertised it and evrything. It was being worked on and was probably very close to being done. It kept getting delayed and delayed until it was eventually quietly canned. Around the same time there was buzz about a Jaguar port of MK3, but nothing came of that either.

Yeah I figured after seeing this mag again that it never came out just cause of how unreliable the screen shots looked, there is also an article I saw in the mag about the unpreventable death of 3DO. LOL
