If the first MK had graphics like MK2, it'd be very obvious but the sprite quality in the first game doesn't do it justice.
I would have voted MK2, but I don't like the massive size of their shin guards, nor do I like the fact they have plastic masks. The checkered pattern (or whatever texture it may be) on their uniform is not as good looking as the smooth cloth uniform of MK1. But of course MK2 comes in second place.
MK4 is exactly like MKM:SZ except 3D and the color is brightened a bit. They come in third place. UMK3 is last place. To me, that style of uniform only fit well with Scorpion.

The comparison works when you compare Mortal Kombat 9's Smoke MKII and Smoke MK1. The chequered pattern exists in the MK1 costume as well though, it wasn't just visible in the low quality sprites of MK1. I liked the MK1 sprites "as is" nevertheless.

You could say that. I added it because I noticed that the masks and hoods are still different. I found out that the MKM ninja concept wasn't directly followed with the realistic sprites of MKM but with Mortal Kombat 4. In other words, MK4 recycles the concept of MKM ninjas most precisely. Ergo now all four "real" male ninja in-game palette-swap costumes have gotten digital treatment, only that the Mortal Kombat 4 ninja costumes don't have HD treatment yet. I'm looking at you, Mortal Kombat X...
So I deleted the MK4 option because after all in each "from real to CGI" costume process the costumes have received some minor alterations for the fact that you can't always reiterate the concept costume perfectly with real clothes unlike with digital graphics. Thanks.

WATAHHHHHHHHH!!!
I don't recall any other ninjas outside of MK with plastic masks.
MK2 ninjas shin guards are a bit too tall. They remind me more of something the samurai would wear.I mean, are they suppose to be steel or metal?Won't that just slow a ninja down? Also,I wasn't too impressed with the bumpy diamond textures in the vests.
UMK3 ninjas are the worst imo.The black part looks kinda like spandex or something a superhero would wear. The hoods and vests look too tight and that makes me think that the ninjas aren't too flexible or agile.LOL! Are their masks clothed or plastic in this one?At the versus screen they appear to be soft cloth but if you look closely at Reptile's selection box, his mask appears to be shaped more and looks to be plastic. The leg cloths? or shin guards? looks to be stitched into the black pants and looks even more like a superhero.
Its kinda funny how MK1 ninja costumes resemble actual ninja apparel than the sequels.
From MK4 to the latest MK,I think Scorpion maintained the ninja look more than Sub-Zero,Reptile,Ermac,Noob,Smoke,and Rain even if he transformed into a samurai looking fighter.I think MKD Sub-Zero looked the worst. There's no way in hell he was sneaking around quietly and swiftly like a ninja looking like Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

*Uses a magnifying glass*
I stand corrected.
I still vote for MK1 though. It just looks "more ninja" than any of the others.

Has to be MK1 because the black part and hood are baggy just how most ninjas should look.

FB: Trans4Materia Card Game I invented "Circling Vulture, Laughing Hyena"
True story, it happened to a friend of a friend of mine... EVERYBODY!
I prefer the motocross shinguards, and vented mask.
The plastic mask, while looking like they cut off the front of a motocross helmet, is actually more akin to a real painter/woodshop mask.
Ninja's deal in poisons & noxious chemicals, meaning they'd need protective gas masks. You can buy these masks in various styles from a hardware store. From simple paper to paper screen in a plastic cage to masks identical to MKII/MKM, and the gasmask of DA-9 Sub-Zero. They're not props, they're functioning real world devices, I've had to use, myself.
Ka-Tra

Only because it TAKES AWAY the basic ninja looK. Most of them aren't real ninja, so don't persuade the players with that outfit style.

MK2 are my most bad-ass / authentic.
UMK3 are too thight, but they are allright.
MK4 very fun game to play but the ninja-costumes are a joke
