i really have no experience playing MK4, and i was wondering if it would at all be worth it (after playing DA and all) to go back and play it, is it better for the psx or n64?

I wasn't impressed by any of the MK4's for home systems...if its at all possible get MK Gold for the Sega Dreamcast. It's by far the best version of MK 4 that you can get for a home system.

I haven't played the PSX version, but I have played the N64 version; and it's pretty good. Plays smooth, and graphics and sound are good. I heard that the PSX version is a lot faster. I'm guessin there's not a world of difference other than maybe the gameplay flow, and a slight difference in graphical quality (PSX= some pixelation...N64= 3d acceleration which didn't come out too bad on this game). I'll post a little more when I get to play PSX MK4.

Get Gold! I don't have it but it's up there with the arcade on graphics, and you get more characters, plus the other home versions are no where as nice looking as the arcade...(MK must be respected *chanting* z:o

The PSX version of MK4 was horrible. The poly count was way too low. MK4 for N64 looked much much better, but it didn't have the prerendered video endings, but thats not too big a deal.
MKgold had the higher poly counts, looked better then MK4 in any of its ports, and had more characters. If you want Mk4, thats the way to go. As far as wanting it, I suggest finding a way to try before you buy. I personally think the game is very weak and not worth playing.

The best Mortal Kombat 4 on consoles is Nintendo 64.
Playstation is not worth it.
If two people started N64 and Playstation at the same time and beat the Novice tower, the N64 player would have beaten the game 11 minutes before the PSX player. Yeah, thats how loaded the PS is.
Besides, N64 has way better graphics than PSX. Though there is no animated movie scenes, everything uses game graphics for the ending.
What kills the crappy MK4 on consoles is MK Gold for Dreamcast.
Dreamcast MK Gold does not load at all, it's just immediately to the game. You'll never catch "Now Loading...".
Mortal Kombat Gold is directly ripped from Ed Boon's computer, arcade everything. I'm talking about the best graphics, frameskip, sounds, unseen animation, more characters.
Boon and Tobias did not convert the graphics for Dreamcast. They didn't delete 2,200 frames from each individual character like they did with PSX/N64.
My ratings (updated)
Mortal Kombat 4- N64 85/100
Mortal Kombat Gold- 100/100
