So thinking about the "queen bee" character and got me thinking of the vorpax character from the mk conquest tv show and how they were a bunch of warrior females and such in which they had hives, etc.
This chick could just be a alternate version perhaps. ...

Stopped there. If you think UMK3 is a more technically sound fighter than MK9 then you're delusional. UMK3 could be played competitively and was, due to it being the best option for MK fans at the time... but the game is completely imbalanced and simplistic. 75% of that game is run jab pressure. One of the most shallow fighters played competitively.
If you want to play that game, play it. For the rest of us, we'll thank you to let our franchise evolve.

Edit: And all of those little intros are character specific.
Edit 2: And we'll be seeing old favorites.

Since some people have asked. Background use is mainly for propelling characters. Projectiles can be blocked with the block BUTTON. :)

I'm a little bummed by people dismissing the new characters out of hand because they don't "feel" like MK characters. The sentiment here seems to be that, absent Sub-Zero and Scorpion, we wouldn't be able to tell that this was a Mortal Kombat game.
Not sure that's entirely fair. I think it's easy to feel this way coming off the heels of MK9, where the whole point was recreating an appeal and aesthetic from well over a decade before. That experience really, really worked and it was super fun, and the nostalgia was pretty great for everyone, I think. But there are a whole lot of us ready to let that experience go and move on to something new. If we don't, we're just asking NRS to keep remaking Mortal Kombat Trilogy until the end of time.
It still has to be an MK game, and thus it has to carry some core of that old aesthetic. But every one of the old games brought in wacky new character elements that don't really fit in anywhere, either.
I wonder how everyone felt in 1994 when they learned that Boon and company were introducing cyborgs to the series or undead drag queens with prehensile weave? (Said lovingly, btw. Sindel's my girl.)

LMAO @ Undead drag queens. I can't!

I would argue that it's actually not a matter of nostalgia for MK Trilogy, because the elements that are missing now WERE present in the series all the way until Armageddon.
Mortal Kombat as a whole franchise, if you strip away all the details and describe what it's "core" is, is supposed to be "ASIAN mythology vs the modern world"
But MK9, I feel, began a process of gradual REMOVAL of the Chinese/Japanese element in favor of either adapting things from Western cultures like Greek or Aztec, or stealing things from whatever the most popular game out at the time is like God of War or Assassin's Creed. And the trend seems to be continuing.

Why are you so mad? He's just stating his opinion and not trying to force it into anyone. LOL @ "let the franchise evolve" as if his opinion is stopping Boon and co. from continue with this.

That's actually the first thing that came to my mind too.
There's been a surprising lack of insect-based fighters in MK so far (no, Scorpion doesn't fucking count). The closest we got before was Hotaru, I guess. So I'm pretty hyped, in case you couldn't tell.

....what the heck did I just see? I am utterly amazed. That was such a deviation in look and style, and I LOVE what I see so far! I think Professor Ahnka described it best, at least for me: this feels like Deadly Alliance when it was revealed: so different, so fresh, and so serious compared to the past entries. I am loving how the look of the characters and costume models are more serious and realistic now...THESE costumes are what Kombatants should look like. And the backgrounds, love them so far. Mysterious, intriguing, and not over-the-top like the last entry. I didn't really care for MK2011 because to me, well, aesthetically it looked kind of ugly to me. This is just beautiful so far.
I think I am really digging the female character.
One thing is certain: they are definitely NOT from Earthrealm. Are we seeing the return of the other realms here? I could easily place her as coming from Chaosrealm. Both her and the big dude, actually.

THIS all the way, I agree a 100% with everything you said.
And I would LOVE to see new realms! Bring them on.

Agreed. Tis good news. I quite like the propelling option, seems to quicken the gameplay a little bit and make things a little more hectic if you get tossed across screen.

I'll say it one last time.
The new characters fit perfectly in MK. If you think otherwise, you're jaded by years of technical, financial and time restrictions.
These characters are no less believable than Baraka.
The only reason we didn't have characters like this before is because the team couldn't pull it off. MK is a world of crazy fantastical monsters... it's just that now they finally have the resources to create some deep designs that support creative gameplay and show a shit ton of personality.
If that's not your bag, then there's the door.

Speaking of gameplay, look closely at how the characters move in this game. Sometimes it looks like dashing, other times it looks like a flat-out run. Is running perhaps making a comeback? Particularly at the 1:00 mark - it looks more like a run Scorpion is doing, not a dash, or a choppy dash-dash move.

You should take your own advice then, and stop directly quoting the members that are shittng on the new characters, because they have a different opinion than you, and ignore them!

By the way, I find it interesting that Scorpion kept his MK9 VA, but Sub-Zero is clearly not the guy who did either Bi-Han or Kuai Liang in the last game. Which is kind of a shame, I liked both of them.
So...do you think Ed had him recast JUST so we wouldn't be able to tell which brother it is?
