Guess they're bringing in the well-knowns like Blum and Hale.

Calling it now Johnny Cage to be voiced by Nolan North.

Oh yeah and Sutherland...voicing Raiden.

Fighting mechanics look SO awesome. Specific intos make me want to cry with joy.

God-Like Blue guy looks awesome! Can't wait to hear more about him.

Executioner with the midget I am not to fond of. Just doesn't feel right to me.

I too thought Vorpax when I saw the bug girl. But after the midget says "What lady bug do about it?" I swear that ladybug responds "It's Jomit!" But either way, I think she looks great.

Excited for more!

Just saw this on TYM.

Is this the character variation we heard about? i.e. Scorpion with glowing hands-> more fire attacks; Scorpion with a sword -> sword attacks; Scorpion with thingy on his belt -> better grabs/spear attacks ...?

I love Nolan, but Johnny's VA for MK9 was perfect.

Really cool, so it seems like the "different versions" could be like different gadgets that grant some specific abilities. Sounds great (though this kind of stuff is hard to balance and most times there will be THE item you always pick, hope I'm wrong).

I'm also glad this means the game isn't about different realities :D

Oh god, I hope not. That's some Soul Calibur weapon-switching bullshit.

Looking at it, it seems like there are 3 versions of Sub-Zero: with 2 emblems (one of them glows more) can throw his Ice Clone, then there are 2 versions with just the left emblem, one seems to be the able to use the kori blades (has the 2 blades on his belt) and the white mask one seems to be able to parry atacks.

This game is sounding ridiculously deep. Potentially 3 substantially different movesets for each character. Over 600 separate fight intros. Holy shit.

From what I've seen of the characters and the medieval looking and settings I think this might be an alternate take on MK, like a total reboot, because apart
from Sub and Scorp nothing really reminded me of the MKs of yesteryear.

Interesting

I know. Remove Sub-Zero and Scorpion, this is a completely diff game almost...

That was my impression, too. MK has been taking some pretty hard swerves with respect to its mythos. Imagine that troll guy with the imp in MKII or MK3. It's completely incongruent. These new characters would be at home in Fable or a twisted fairy tale.

That being said, I'm not disliking what I'm seeing. I'm just not sure I like it for MK. Let's not forget that it started out based on kung fu movies. Boy, has this series wandered.

MK is evolving and changing, like it rightly should.

Embrace the change.

MK fans despise change. They'll be thrilled to remain in 1995.

It's not an issue of change, it's one of appropriateness. Sure, if we're going to be super broad about it we could say that MK includes a lot of fantasy but this is a different brand of fantasy than what MK is founded on. It'd be like adding a leprechaun. Sure, it's still under the umbrella of "fantasy" but it'd be kind of strange, no?

Jeff Pilson was perfect. Rock star's voice for a movie star character.

It's impossible to tell WHO that is. It could easily just be some random dead warrior and shouldn't be instantly assumed as Bi-Han.
So who is the head and body in question? Hmm...

That was perfect. MK9 was a great nostalgia trip and absolutely my favorite Mortal Kombat, but its so nice to see new fighters added to the series. The KoF midget/giant combo dude looks fucking glorious. Looks like the run button is returning. I don't like the environmental effects, but everything else was pretty much flawless. Fuck, the stages man! God damn!

By the way, I find it interesting that Scorpion kept his MK9 VA, but Sub-Zero is clearly not the guy who did either Bi-Han or Kuai Liang in the last game. Which is kind of a shame, I liked both of them.

So...do you think Ed had him recast JUST so we wouldn't be able to tell which brother it is?

Sounded like Steve Blum to me.

Aww I hope not. Every time I hear him in something, it's distracting as fuck 'cause I just keep picturing Spike from Cowboy Bebop or, if he's playing it growly, Wolverine from every X-Men thing for the past like 15 years.

My favorite thing about the VAs in MK9 is I didn't recognize any of them from something else, so their characters were just those characters.

It definitely 100% is Blum. If you couldn't tell from the video then how the heck are you always reminded of him in other roles where he does the same voice he does as SZ?

Also: like 50% of MK2011's cast was instantly recognizable from other games and shows, so I wager maybe you don't stray far from MK? I mean like 5 of the cast members also were in Street Fighter IV.

I'm not seeing the dragon figurehead, but I guess it's possible.

Good call, I didn't think of that.
