With Boons tweet the other day, I assumed that MK:X would be the story from MK4 to MK6. After that trailer, I think it's pretty much confirmed.
The imp and the giant definitely have a chaos feel to me, while the Aztec feels very much from the world Jade visited.. is this the nightmare realm or the land of the dead? Maybe Shinnok isn't the only one with power in hell.
The character designs are very different to MK, but I think that's a good thing. We've had about 15 MK games of very similar characters.. the landscape is changing. I personally embrace it.

It's probably just due to it being early in production, but I really, really like how the characters aren't completely covered in blood to the point you cannot even make out any detail on them by the end of the fight. Another aesthetic in MK9 I found rather ugly. It was just way too overdone.

Ladybug looks like she has the potential to be the most interesting new character since Quan Chi

By the way, why's everyone so hype for the ice forest from the trailer being an actual stage?
Is there some detail or structure or interesting thing hidden among the trees I'm not seeing? It's just so empty, where's all the weird buildings or faces on the trees or monsters slinking around in the back that MK stages usually have?
I mean the dock with the Shang's Barge-lookin' ship and giant skull-shaped rock looks cool.

At least it wasn't Tanya.
I don't understand why people are saying this doesn't feel like MK when half of this trailer is showcasing new characters. No shit it doesn't feel like MK. It's brand new.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero were fighting in a forest, probably in Outworld. THAT'S MK. In a few months, you'll be seeing Tanya, Quan-Chi, and other likely characters fighting in the Netherrealm.

Yeah. Looks equally brutal but not so ridiculous. The only thing I'm seeing are the remains of fallen warriors, but I can't really make out who they are.

That's the point, it's pretty normal and mundane amidst a bunch of crazy ass environments. It's nice to sometimes have at least one normal arena.

Mortal Kombat as a whole franchise, if you strip away all the details and describe what it's "core" is, is supposed to be "ASIAN mythology vs the modern world"
But MK9, I feel, began a process of gradual REMOVAL of the Chinese/Japanese element in favor of either adapting things from Western cultures like Greek or Aztec, or stealing things from whatever the most popular game out at the time is like God of War or Assassin's Creed. And the trend seems to be continuing.

Eh. I see your point, but I think there's a basic issue of mileage varying. No point in picking nits over what the "core" of the game is, as I think both of our opinions are fair.
In any case, I think it's probably way too early in development to try and judge just how the overall feel of this game fits the mold. I'm pleased so far nonetheless.

It... has begun!
My internet is being a real A-hole today but from the blurry videos I've seen, the insect girl looks awesome, as well as the new guy in the fatality scene. Finally, we got some new characters, been a long time since Taven and Daegon.
And I like that new dock stage. I want to see more! lol.

Some people are claiming that the thing that's half-buried in the snow back there could be a Stargate or some shit.

Not at all. But having one normal arena is fine as long as the others are very over the top and crazy. It's not like Armageddon where they just toss in a bunch of boring Konquest arenas and call it a day. Now that would suck.

Pfft, nah.
Statue of a dragon, maybe.
In motion it just looked like a big fallen-over tree. That's what happens when you make everything the same desaturated blue-gray color.

The Dragon Medallion has...y'know...a dragon on it.
That, sir, if I'm remembering preschool correctly, is three circles.
Maybe four circles. I'm trying to get a bead on pausing the video at a non-blurry moment.
